If we do this again in 2 or 3 years, Steph Curry is definitely going to find his way into this conversation....but his career is too young in my opinion (though the Bill Walton argument will come into play on him...I'm sure).

I'm not sold on Melo. Grant Hill was a fucking what-if unfortunately. Tony Parker....no. Artis Gilmore had a 9-year stretch of 19/11 ball in the NBA....but no All-NBA teams and only 1 All-defense....plus he had less playoff success than anyone listed....so he's a no.

I'm stuck between DJ, Worthy, Dikembe and Rodman.

I can probably eliminate Dikembe. Rodman was almost as game-changing defensively, a better rebounder, and had team success wherever he traveled. DJ and Worthy both had loads of team success, but DJ was a solid 2-way player. Worthy played defense about as well as Magic did.


I guess I've narrowed it down to the two Dennis':

He was never needed to provide offense. He was the ultimate role player. Play lockdown defense on a PF/SF.....go grab 15-20 boards.....hustle. We'll let Isiah, or Joe, or Michael, or Scottie take care of the scoring.

For Dennis Johnson, all I know is that he was the starting PG for teams that went to 6 NBA Finals and 2 other Conference Finals......while making 9 All-defense teams and 2 All-NBA teams.


That's a far better resume than anything Tony Parker can concoct.

I believe that he did set that record. DJ was a really good player That was under appreciated for many years. Not great at one thing offensively but was very adaptable.

I guess I simply like the thought of a PG, who is generally the "quarterback" of a team, leading two completely different franchises with completely different rosters to that much success. Not to diminish Tony's contribution, but it was always on Timmy's watch. For the same reason we rarely see a QB lead separate teams to Super Bowl wins, I think it's equally rare for a PG to lead multiple teams to NBA title success.

Agreed, but he fit the definition of "starting PG on different title teams". I didn't go back past the 90's Bulls. It would appear that it is indeed a rare occurrence.
