Barkley
Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are dumber than that.

I was going to change my vote last round but it didn't matter anyway. I'm gonna have to go with Wade here

This thread needs more youtube clips from NBA Superstars on VHS.

I'll get on that soon when I get home.
Taking a break from the board. Please reference my last post for more details if you are interested.

We sold my mom's house. So, I was going through a bunch of her stuff in the garage. I came across "NBA Superstars 2" and took a photo of it to share here. The gal pal saw me do it and asked why I took a photo of it.

I was too embarrassed to tell her "I'm going to share this photo with a bunch of random strangers online in a message board forum where we sometimes talk about basketball when we're not discussing white power, the death of religion, comic book movies, liberal faggots and a fat guy from orlando."

So being the quick thinker that I am, I replied, "I dunno."

But Wade's 3 rings to 0 for Barkley gets him the vote here.
You just said above this isn't a team poll, so why bring up rings?

Not giving a meaningful amount of weight to what Wade accomplished in 2006 would be pretty silly. That team had a lot of holes and while Shaq was still a pretty great player, the overall team was going exactly nowhere without an incredible performance by Wade. Yes, it was the year of the big handcheck rule enforcement but you play the game the way the rules are enforced at the time. He did and he won.

If two players are fairly close, the player who has won more championships has the advantage, especially if he was a Finals MVP.

People were using the argument that "Isiah" beat Jordan, Bird, and Magic. Statistically Isiah isn't particularly close to Barkley or Wade.

I can see not putting a bunch into the last two rings. Heat fans won't want to hear this, but his role in those was not large enough to sway me. However, the 2006 title was completely different. He literally carried that team over the finish line. Isiah's teams when he won were very deep and talented teams. Like I said in earlier threads, he was more the first among equals than a Jordan or Bird. Yes, his teams beat Jordan and Bird but if you put an average cast around him, he was not winning shit.

There's a chance I was the biggest Isiah Thomas fan on the board.

And I don't see how there's any way he should be voted in at this spot...

The 2006 Heat remain a complete mystery to me. How the hell did they win a title except for (1) lightning in a bottle (2) dubious officiating as they tried to "make a point of emphasis" at the wrong time and (3) Dwyane Wade.

That team was the classic good enough for 50 wins but got destroyed against good teams all year ... until the playoffs. Personally, I thought the Spurs had the best team. And I don't see how Popovich and the Spurs lose to the likes of Antoine Walker and Jason Williams. But, one stupid foul by Manu Ginobili at the worst time changed the fortunes and legacies of multiple teams.

I specifically remember pooh-poohing that Heat's team chances at winning a title, almost completely on the basis of their dysmal record against elite competition. I think at one point they were literally winless against the top 3 or 4 teams in the NBA, or something like that.

Eh. If you play the odds, you have to accept those weird things happening once in a while.

The only person that San Antonio had to defend Dirk Nowitzki was Bowen and Bowen couldn't slow him down. That's what it came down to.

It took the performance of a lifetime from Duncan just to keep them in that game and give them the shot at winning.

I'm torn between Wade & Barkley here, really. Barkley's numbers were staggering when you dig deeper (lots of 30-20 games), but they couldn't result in Ws when it mattered most. Wade had a great peak, but he sure has missed a lot of games.

That's what it looks like it'll come down to for me.

David Robinson didn't have a very long prime but his peak was great. Difference between he and Wade is that DRob was not a great playoff performer at all. Had his moments but usually he underachieved.

But did Isiah have anybody on a level of a Kareem, Worthy, Parish, McHale, and/or Pippen like Jordan, Bird, and Magic had around them?

He didn't. But Dumars was no slouch.
