Hondo wasn't the undisputed best player / lead dog on all those Championship teams.

100% > 92% in the world of reality, slap-nuts... and let's be honest: For the first 9 years of Russell's career all you had to do to get to the Finals is win one (1) playoff series.  Further, Russell was pushed to 7 games a whopping TEN (10) times during the Celtics' run... 10 times in 29 series. Jordan was taken to 7 games just twice in 26 series' during the 90's.

Jordan = greatest winner.

Get mad.

The world of reality has Jordan winning a ring 50 percent of the time in his best 12 year span, and Russell winning a ring 92 percent of the time in his best 12 year span.

You noticed... that's why you commented.

...and it's a 100% legit point: Win (1) playoff series and reach the Finals????

How freaking embarrassingly weak is that...

Sure, we can update for that:

Russell, 27 wins in 29 playoff series, 93 percent winning percentage
Jordan, 31 wins in 37 playoff series, 84 percent winning percentage

So all Russell has is way more rings at a way higher percentage, a much long win streak, and a higher winning percentage in playoff series over the course of an entire career.

That's all though.

There's no spinning at all, silly.

Russell, by any metric is basketball's greatest winner.

Rings, win streak, winning *percentage* (which largely invalidates the but, but, but 8-10 teams aspect) in the playoffs.

When you do better by count AND percentage, it's case closed.

Unlike Jordan, Russell didn't get to artificially bump up his playoff numbers/win counts on average teams or even below-average teams in the first and sometimes second round of the playoffs.

He faced (comparatively) the harder stuff sooner...and *still* won at a higher percentage than Jordan.

Oh okay. Yea, and Babe Ruth would make Mike Trout look like a chump and Yogi is the greatest winner or something.

Win 1 series and reach the Finals... you can spin all you want bush-league, but Jordan's playoffs / Finals record is much more impressive when you consider he had to win 3 series' just to get to the Finals.

...and when he did, he went undefeated.

100% > 92%

Deal with it.

Metrics withOut factoring in context and perspective is pure bush-league.

BTW: Since when is 92% > 100%... or does Finals record (conveniently) not count in your metric analysis?

Yes, when you win more frequently and at a higher percentage against harder competition (within-era) than another player, you are a better winner than that player. This isn't that complicated.

I suppose beating Wilt like a drum (almost) every time really lacks face validity without beating a .500 team in a best of five beforehand though, right? No.

Russell won multiple RINGS without Cousy. Without Hondo. Without Sharman. Without Auerbach.

Jordan didn't win a *series* or even have a *winning season* without Pippen.

That level of difference isn't explained by "muh number of teams".

Jordan couldn't beat the giants of the NBA once. Russell almost never lost to them.

Two hilarious bitchslapped sweep efforts against Boston. Then a yearly punching bag for the Pistons before every NBA giant got old, injured, or filled with HIV.

My post is fair, objective, and beyond debate. Especially by TDK.

Yeah those 59-win Bucks (85) and HOF stacked Celtics (86 and 87) and Bad Boys (88) were clearly average / below-average teams.... and definitely no match for those mighty juggernaut Syracuse Nationals, (pre) Wilt Warriors, and Cincinnati Royals that Russ had to beat to get to the Finals.

Yes, this guy would be the best player in the MLB today by far. That’s why your arguments on basketball are so solid despite your glory days takes on baseball.

Russell has a higher playoff series winning *percentage* as well as ring count.

The issue that you noted would bias winning percentage *against* Russell and *for* Jordan, since Russell didn't get two rounds to feast on mediocre teams before playing the real talented teams.

Eliminate the first/second rounds of each of Jordan's title years, and his playoff series winning percentage would drop to 76 percent (19-25)

Even *with* an artificial boost to winning percentage he couldn't match Russell.

It happened in college too. Russell two rings. Jordan, 0.000 rings as a lead player, losing to a bunch of white farm kids from Indiana.

It happened to a lesser degree in the Olympics. Russell leading America to a gold medal. In 1992, Jordan posting the worst FG percentage out of all the professional players for Team USA. In a more contested tournament, Jordan would have likely cost the US the gold medal.

He had to face those teams early on because he was so bad at being a winner during the regular season.

Do you know how seeding works?

I was referencing both men's title seasons though.

Russell did the equivalent of jumping right into the conference finals. Then the finals.

Jordan got two easy series wins right out of the gate.

Russell got *nothing* easy. And he *still* won at a higher percentage.
