It looks like the game was a lot more aggressive back then. Are you worried at all about getting a concussion? You seem to get head injuries quite easily.
I feel confident in saying that Artie is one of those guys that the older he gets, the better he used to be.[/quoteway You seriously don't know me at all..stop acting like you do..You're always waoff
No. Over a decade of watching you make an ass of yourself on the regular here and on predecessor boards has me with a pretty good take on who you are Artie. And you're being triggered and unable to quote properly is just a tiny part of that package.

I think the premise of the thread is to base it on how you play now, not on how you would play if you were 80 years ago.

Exactly. None of us are professional basketball players but if we could travel back in time with the skills we have now, would we make the league?

Yes.

But I'd be even more confident in that take if it was 25 year old me... and if I was guaranteed to have a coach who didn't force us to shoot like that and restricted left-handed dribbling in stuff.

I'd be the Sweet River Baines of the era.

Did coaches back then tell players they couldn't dribble with their left hand? It sure looks like it in the video.

I wonder if First Take and TDK would admit the modern era would probably beat these guys.

I wonder if those that played in the 70s look at those that played in the 40s the same way we look at those playing now to those that played in the 90s?

The gap was so much larger back then. They were still trying to figure out how to the play the game.

Obviously.

This was back when there was a center jump ball after every made basket, so those with svelte physiques like Arty could catch a quick breather before getting elbowed in the ribs by some dude named Sal or Red.

Probably not, and given they clearly state these are college games in the video, there’s not much basis to even judge from this clip.

Oh... you caught me. Totally different games back then between the college and pro leagues.

Here's a game from January, 1950. Is that close enough?

The four highest volume shooters (as a proxy for minutes, which weren’t tracked) on that Knicks team were 6’5”, 6’8”, 6’6”, and 6’5” ...so, I’m still not going to be arrogant or ignorant enough to pretend I’d be able to hack it in the 1940/50s NBA. The FT attempt at around 1:30 was funny as hell though.

Karl and I are in that height range as is. I really don't think it's a far stretch based on what you can see to think Karl could compete at that level.

That’s fine but OP said “you” not “I”... I’m sure there’s some very skilled people today who don’t hold a candle to current NBA, who might be able to warm a bench in the 1940’s NBA... but I’m still sure 99% of people who think they could are full of shit.
