This news is definitely hitting me extra hard for a few reasons tonight.

My mother was hit by a drunk driver on Wednesday night and it totalled her car, she thankfully is okay but she has some injuries she will have to work through and of course the POS had no insurance to help out here. She recently traded her Fiat in for a Toyota Tacoma. If she had been in her Fiat, the suburban that hit her may have caused life threatening injuries. It wasnt all that far from tragedy.

Two of my friends who died last year, one overdosed, and one was hit by a car as he was walking to work. Both of them were massive Kobe fans and it was always a topic of conversation when we were together.

My wife and I lost her niece around GiGis age 2 years ago and it's just been sincerely a heartbreak for us all over again learning about Kobe's daughter.

Life is not something we should ever take for granted, though I know I am guilty sometimes of this. Cherish those you have in your life every day.

Kobe brought people into my life with our mutual love of basketball, the Lakers, and Kobes game specifically. Today will be a loss that I'll feel though I never knew the man personally. They don't all hurt the same. Depends what that person meant to you and your life. I have found myself teary eyed on several occasions today, and wouldnt wish what Kobes family is experiencing on anyone.

RIP Black Mamba, you will be missed.

Can you even imagine how difficult it was for him in that moment? The moment he knew that not only his own life was about to end, but that of his daughter...a life he helped create.

Can you imagine how he felt as a father knowing he couldn't protect her?

Can you imagine him holding her, consoling her, telling her he loved her as that helicopter went down?

As a parent, I can tell you, Kobe Bryant's greatest fear was realized today. And it wasn't the fear for his own life, but for that of his beautiful daughter.

Because as a parent, your life means nothing in comparison to the lives of your children.

We live for our children. We breathe for our children. They are our reason for being.

We would also die for them, without hesitation.

Without question, without a moments notice, we would lay down our own lives to ensure theirs.

Just thinking of his internal struggle in those last moments tears my heart into pieces.

He knew his daughter's young life was ending. He knew he was leaving 3 other precious children behind. Oh, how his heart must have ached!

Can you even imagine the agony that played out in his mind? Every parents worst nightmare happening to him in real time.

He was there when his sweet girl took her first breath, and he was there with her when she took her last.

And that's the only solace I can find in this...that he was there. In her final moments, her daddy was there to remind her of his undying love.

And with everything in me, I hope that baby felt every ounce of love her daddy had for her. I hope it overwhelmed her, and carried her straight into paradise.

Because I know that's all her daddy wanted too.

Rest in peace Kobe and Gigi. Our hearts mourn you ❤

Hug your children extra tight tonight, mamas and daddies. Tomorrow is never promised.

I still can’t quite grasp that this actually happened. It feels like a dream. Very surreal.

It’s amazing the impact a person can have on someone they have never met. For me, it was Steve McNair. He’s literally the reason I became a Titans fan and remain one to this day. His death was absolutely shocking and heartbreaking. And although I wasn’t a Kobe or Lakers fan, this very much feels the same to me. Kobe was a helluva player and it really didn’t matter if you loved him or hated him because you always respected him. Dude was a baller and cared about winning. That was always his number 1 priority and you couldn’t help but respect it. I remember saying the day he retired that the NBA became a little less fun. He always made the sport more entertaining. Even in retirement, he had thoughtful things to say and I really enjoyed listening to him. I’m gonna miss him, and it might be a while until I get over this.

Sorry for your losses brother. Glad momma is okay. Hug your loved ones while they're still here. Heard Staples already retired 24 & 8 during the Grammys there tonight?

Yeah you pretty much have to. Who could wear that number in LA again anyway.

"A few things stand out here. The helicopter pilot was flying under "special VFR". This means flight conditions didn't meet the minimums for "visual flight rules"'. To fly VFR in those conditions, you have to request "special" VFR. The hope or the goal is to get off the ground and then fly into better conditions, or regular VFR. You generally do this so you won't have to wait on the ground for conditions to improve. Especially if you are going to a place with favorable conditions. When pilots are flying low under deteriorating conditions that's a disaster waiting to happen. He or she was so low, air traffic control couldn't pick up the audio from the aircraft. Not sure if there was a mechanical issue with the aircraft but it may have hit a hill before crashing. In either case, after the investigation, I conclude this accident will be attributed to pilot error. Unless of course, there was a mechanical problem. My condolences to all the families of those who perished."

I actually thought he would have a helicopter accident before..
Law of averages kind of predicted this. With as much as he traveled via chopper there was bound to be a flight out of probably thousands of flights that didn't go well. ..
Not sure when I thought this but I remeber thinking it within the last couple years.
Super sad.
I was really looking forward to seeing what he accomplished post NBA and was quite fond of him the past 10 years or so

so messed up. I read he was a devout Catholic which gives him hope to have been saved. Catholics it's hit or miss if they're truly saved, I hope he was so I can meet him one day in Heaven.

Still doesn't feel real. The idea that he's gone is really strange. Not just that he's gone today, but that he won't get to sit courtside at Staples as an old man.
