How tall would you have to be...
... to be an NBA player. Even a lousy one on the end of the bench.
For context... it's been reported that...
- 17% of American 7-footers will make the NBA at some point in their lives.
- .07% of Americans between 6'6" and 6'8" will make the NBA.
There's no way of really knowing how much specialized and dedicated training you'd get from being such a tall prospect. That's a lot of speculation. At the same time, because you're shorter, you might have learned other skills that would make you more appealing as a 7-footer. For example, as a PG my entire basketball life, I can shoot with some range, dribble and pass well. Would those skills translate in a body that was 6" taller... 12" taller?
So with the skills you have now... how tall would you have to be to make it onto an NBA roster?

I've always said that if I were 6'10", I wouldn't be an HR professional.

Re: How tall would you have to be...
There is no height at which my lack of skill could be overcome.
Re: How tall would you have to be...
My game was dropped radically over the last few years since I don't play anymore.
Right now, I'd probably have to be Rik Smits sized.
In my prime...I think I could do work as a classic 7'0'' center.
Relative to my height and peers, I was a:
Great outside shooter
Very good rebounder
Average ball-handler
Average speed/quickness
Slightly below average finishing ability at the rim
Slightly below average ability to create my own shot against athletic defensive players
Extremely high IQ and court vision
I'd peg myself for a 10/11/4 stat-line with respectable, non-elite defense.

Taking a break from the board. Please reference my last post for more details if you are interested.

Re: How tall would you have to be...
Good question and I just wanted to say thanks, I appreciate it.
To answer I'd say I wouldn't make the NBA regardless but if I had to pick a height to give me the best odds I'd say 6'9"or higher. I'd be an outside shooting power forward.
Think of a poor man's Ryan Anderson. Got it?
Now imagine a poor man's version of that dude. That's me.

Probably Europe. I have a very good outside shot and really good footwork around the rim but my foot speed is slow and I can't dribble for beans.AbeVigodaLive wrote:Kingcarl24 wrote:I've always said that if I were 6'10", I wouldn't be an HR professional.

Re: How tall would you have to be...
i like how OP leaves me out of his post even though i'm the only person who ever posted evidence of actually being able to shoot a basketball
and to answer the question. i would need to be a shooting guard in my prime. so 6-5 or 6-6
as i am right now ( less athleticism ) probly 6-10

On this board, yes.Kennethgriffin wrote:i like how OP leaves me out of his post even though i'm the only person who ever posted evidence of actually being able to shoot a basketball
I've seen Carl shoot on the Jazz court, from halfcourt, blindfolded, and a hook shot. Nothing but net.

Yes, your two inch jump-shots on an empty court were poetry in motion.Kennethgriffin wrote:i like how OP leaves me out of his post even though i'm the only person who ever posted evidence of actually being able to shoot a basketball

i'm 32 ... i don't really play much anymore. i have photo evidence of me dunking from a few years ago
so picture a white guy who can shoot and dunk at 6-2 ... now give that guy a 6-6 frame

No white man under 6 foot 10 has ever dunked in the history of history. And even then it's just your generic 2 handed dunk standing directly under the net.Kennethgriffin wrote:Bush4Ever wrote:Yes, your two inch jump-shots on an empty court were poetry in motion.Kennethgriffin wrote:i like how OP leaves me out of his post even though i'm the only person who ever posted evidence of actually being able to shoot a basketball

a 6-2 guy that can do basic dunks would be able to throw down windmills if he had a real nba body. i thought that was the point of the thread
give me the same verticality and i'm doing allot more than basic dunks with an extra 4-5 inches in height lol
