The Swiss Maestro shuts it down for the year
Another knee scope for Federer, it will be nearly 12 months since he played by his next appearance. Is the end nigh? @kevin

It pretty much has to be right. Knee scopes and father time are not a good mix.kobeunderbite wrote:Another knee scope for Federer, it will be nearly 12 months since he played by his next appearance. Is the end nigh? @kevin

I'd never count him out but the climb back is getting steeper and steeper. Have to imagine he'll only play a hugely limited schedule moving forward even best case, especially to protect himself for Wimbledon and the Olympics. If the tour comes back this fall he may also suffer a meaningful rankings hit before the Australian Open that he may never recover from. Not that he can't overcome that but it just makes things that much more difficult.vcsgrizzfan wrote:It pretty much has to be right. I won't get greedy. Roger has given me many chills, and in particular, his last slam which to me was really unexpected. If he surprised again, amazing, but I really don't think so. The best before date just went by.kobeunderbite wrote:I'd never count him out but the climb back is getting steeper and steeper. His retirement will be a blow the tour may never fully recover from. How do you replace that kind of intrigue and box office appeal? It's impossible let alone when all of the big three are gone. We are truly blessed to have been able to watch all three of them for so long.vcsgrizzfan wrote:I won't get greedy. I agree. When the big 3 are gone, it's going to be a rough patch for tennis. I wonder how many slams each would have if one of the three had never existed. Roger and Rafa without the Joker. The Joker and Rafa without Roger and so on....we have been incredibly blessed.kobeunderbite wrote:His retirement will be a blow the tour may never fully recover from. It’s time for the angry Russian to take over

Yep, his career is pretty much over now. Really wish he had taken that Wimbledon last year. Glad he holds the record, but tying Martina would have been cool.kobeunderbite wrote:Another knee scope for Federer, it will be nearly 12 months since he played by his next appearance. So, Fed’s career is over and Chris Sale’s career is also over. I’m glad COVID cancelled sports so I don’t have to be as depressed about these things.

If healthy he's a top-2 Wimbledon 2021 contender.
