As an FYI, RealGM is doing a list like us I think.

1. Kobe much lower. Lebron much higher.
2. Dirk way higher. Mikan way lower.
3. Garnett at 11!
4. Bird at 10!

Only reason kobe is as high is because of the delusional kobe kids.Bush4Ever wrote:As an FYI, RealGM is doing a list like us I think.

No, I think Kobe is ranked pretty fairly on our list. It seems like they have some different criteria than most of us do. I also think it draws from a much larger pool of posters who honestly devote more work to their selections.deezna10 wrote:Only reason kobe is as high is because of the delusional kobe kids.Bush4Ever wrote:As an FYI, RealGM is doing a list like us I think.

How in the world did Bird drop to #10. That's terrible.

There was also a minor problem with some guys rating KG as high as 4 in their personal lists.

Yeah, just as terrible. It makes our list look like it's a bit more legit than I would have thought.

Those were just individual posters. Most of that silliness gets washed out in the "wisdom of the masses" process, usually.AbeVigodaLive wrote:Bush4Ever wrote:There was also a minor problem with some guys rating KG as high as 4 in their personal lists.

Looking over our list, the only things I've really thought about is that Moses Malone is probably ranked a *little bit* too high (I've come around on that a bit), and maybe Elgin Baylor being ranked too low.
Everything else is pretty reasonable IMO. Maybe we aren't a group of retards after all.

Oh. Wow.
Those guys seem to be overrating NBA defense. Considering Magic and Bird shared 8 NBA titles in an era that saw the Erving Sixers, Bad Boys of Detroit and even beginning of the Bulls... it seems a bit misguided.

Because they played with better teammates.AbeVigodaLive wrote:y2ktors wrote:Defense. Look at Magic at #8.AbeVigodaLive wrote:

The point was that it was a decade of truly great teams. And, Bird and Magic stood out.
Defense? In the NBA? Really?
Re: 2014 Anger General Greatest of All Time #28
I'm not disputing the first statement. But the list is more of individual analytics, and less of rings and other accolades.AbeVigodaLive wrote:y2ktors wrote:Because they played with better teammates.AbeVigodaLive wrote:

The latter is still important but analyzing the player's personal performance on both ends of the court, off/on, RAPM, and circumstances are very heavily weighted.

So, it's an analytics circle jerk. I'll pass.
Analytics are very important in basketball. But not like baseball. At least, they're used in a different way. I think of it this way, analytics in basketball is like looking at stats in baseball and figuring out where you need to position fielders to play a shift against a certain batter. That has merit... but to judge how "good" a player was in comparison to guys like Bird, Magic and Robertson and Olajuwon based on a cumulative set of advanced stats? Meh. Not for me.
It's no surprise that it's happening... I said it would... but when advanced sabermetrics are used for basketball... you're going to get a lot of noise.
And very little context.

If I ever had "fuck you money" one of my hobbies in retirement would be giving some of these higher-end analytics my full attention.

But his OFFAWRTY% and DEFOUFHTY% wasn't as high.
If you knew anything about basketball... you'd know that.

Everything is Relitive. You can't know what one thing is until you compare it to something else.
Well, compared to their List, our list now looks so much better. I mean, our list got some things wrong, but not to terribly wrong. Especially compared to their list!! lol!!
In our list, koME does NOT belong in the Top 10, I rank him 12th. But as of right now, ranking Lebron over him is a Joke!! lol!! At least for koME, I can see the argument for him being a top 10 player, as I only rank him 2 spots lower.
And Bird at 10!!?? Garnett at 11!!? Steve Nash at 25!!!??? Uhmm....NO!!! LOL!!!
Their list makes our list seem Golden!!
I would rather DIE Standing on my Feet, than Live Life on my Knees!!
Re: 2014 Anger General Greatest of All Time #28
I just lost a lot of respect for realgm after seeing that list.
