NBA and their geographic division oddities

Post by Havlicekstealsit »

Washington plays in the Southeast Division. Their closest division foe is almost 400 miles south.

The only team in the 5-team Northwest Division that is actually in the northwest part of the country is Portland.

Both Memphis & New Orleans reside east of the Mississippi River yet play in both the Western Conference and the Southwest Division.

There's a division specifically named after the region which their city resides, yet Phoenix does not play in the Southwest.

Baltimore is considered part of the south so DC is in the south by default since it is south of Baltimore

Washington was the odd man odd for Northeast teams.

I agree the Northwest should be renamed

New Orleans and Memphis got screwed but you can't really move any of the central teams to the Western Conference either.

They should rename the Pacific division...California + 1
