The 90's still had to many players still in the game of the 70's mentality. The 3,nothing more than a gimmick shot. It took over ten years league wide before teams started more 3's after both college and HS started using it.

Chuck probably peaked in Philly TBH. People cite his 1993 season as his peak, but I think that might have been circumstance and environment more so than him as an individual.
But anyone scoring 25 on turbo-efficiency while maxing rebounding and having a reasonable passing dimension is worth major respect.
He eventually shot too many threes. Never played defense (much, consistently, etc...). Those were his main weaknesses.
If Phoenix had fined him every time he took a three-pointer, they might have won a ring.

IIRC, Barkley has the lowest percentage for threes out of players who took [a meaningful number] of threes.
Barkley actually broke efficiency as a concept before Steph Curry.
In Philly, his TS+ ranged from 122 to 124 for five seasons (Steph only did that once). Which is bonkers. Almost entirely a function of getting to the line like a demon and being able to get/finish at the rim at a GOAT-level.

Re: mannn who here favorite player was charles barkley?
While that is true, no one was forcing him to chuck them at an awful rate.
My big issue and the reason for my first post was not so much to denigrate Barkley (he was definitely a fine player) but to put his stature in the game back then into perspective.
Through most of his career, Barkley was considered a top 5 player in the NBA. Think that through.
There is no universe where Barkley is a top 15 player in today's NBA. His limitations from deep and on defense would just make that impossible.
Look, I lived through 90s hoops (and 70s and 80s too) and I loved it at the time. But with the benefit of hindsight, it was a weak era on a relative basis. It just was and no amount of rationalization can change that.
That's not MJs fault. You can only play who is in front of you. But it is something that needs to be considered when evaluating players in a historical context.
