Disney says none of that is canon anymore though, which is a travesty. Episodes 7, 8, and 9 should have been based on the Timothy Zahn books.

My teenage-college self was definitely obsessed with Star Wars, although I never really made a huge thing about it in regular life. I read all the expanded universe stories. Character bios. The works.

Even though I'm done with Star Wars now, I can remember everything. Before the dark times. Before the mouse.

It would have been more accurate to say they couldn't form relationships in the Old Jedi Order. Strictly speaking, I don't believe they had to be celibate.

One oddity in the Old Jedi Order was Ki-Adi-Mundi, who clapped five separate wife cheeks to father seven children in order to counter the low birth rate of his home planet:
