I think Tatum's decision to drop Kobe as a mentor is paying off.

I don't want to read all of that. Can you just paste the part where Kobe agreed to be Tatum's mentor and when Tatum decided to end that relationship. Thanks.
I don't have the direct reference to it but essentially Kobe was helping Tatum with his game then Tatum decided to discontinue his training with Kobe for the betterment of his game.

Did Tatum take a long mid-range shot?

I guess with two seconds on the clock and a tie score he should have dribbled out for a 24 footer?

Rob was happy the Celtics didn't give Tatum up for AD

I don't hate Tatum like most on this board but to not trade for AD is just plain dumb.

Franchise player!

Five game sample sizes are fun!

Well then, in that case, Tatum is a 48% 3-point shooter. That's higher than prime Kobe for FG%. WoW!!!

And Karl Anthony-Towns has a PER of 40.9! He's better than Jordan, Kobe and AD combined!!!!

With respect to KUB's assertion that I said he was on his way to being a top 5 player, I can't specifically recall saying that but I'm DEFINITELY guilty of buying into the hype. I thought he looked amazing and was shocked at how pedestrian he was last year.

5 game sample size after a full year of being a 0 impact role player last year
A 20 year-old that isn't All-NBA caliber yet. Imagine that!?!

Wait, who is your team again? Oh, that's right, you don't have one. You bandwagon whatever that season's hotness is.

You're a 0 impact NBA fan.

I dug this up, fun snapshot in time:

I'll beg to differ. Tatum impacts the game in many more ways than Markkanen and has a much, much higher ceiling. Markkanen is a "good" player, not a "very good" player.
Such as? Defense, I can see. Anything else?
Well, it's not completely fair because they play different positions and roles. But yes, defense is huge. The fact that Tatum is this advanced defensively at 19 years of age and a rookie is really remarkable. And in this league where wings keep getting better and better, defending wings keeps getting more and more important.

Where it gets a little unfair because of different positions is that I can see Tatum in a few years being a complete offensive package too. He can put it on the deck and drive, he can dish, he can shoot and he's not afraid of any moment, which is again remarkable for a 19 year old rookie. I really believe he is going to be a top 6 or 7 player in the NBA within three years and I don't see anything remotely close to that for Markkanen.
