The warriors were 51-31 when Jackson got fired. That year Barnes 1 yr, exp., Curry 4, Green 1, Klay 2, etc.

So now Luke walks right in and is doing better than Kerr, hmmmm

I think it's deeper than that. The Warriors finished first in defensive rating and second in offensive rating last year. The improvement wasn't just a minor step function. It was dramatic. They were a 'good' team by most objective criteria two years ago. They were a truly great team last year, using similar criteria.
