Re: 2014 Anger General Top Ten Greatest of All Time #10
The Rockets had a six year stretch after losing to the Celtics in the Finals where they went 268-224 (.545), won ONE playoff series, and missed the playoffs once.
Hakeem was 24-29 during that time (dead in his prime).
Yes, he won the title with a fairly mediocre team in 94, but then had a pretty solid squad in 95.
I think people's dislike for Lebron is definitely swaying this vote, which is fine, but realistically there's not much of a sensible argument to place Hakeem above Lebron, even with Lebron being in the middle of his career. I love The Dream, but to me it's Lebron #10 and Hakeem #11.
p.s. Before any of you start calling me some silly Lebron-related nickname, just know that I didn't vote for Lebron one single time until this round.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are dumber than that.

I've written consistently that Akeem is probably the least ripped superstar on message boards. In fact, I think his legacy has improved in time as people simply see the cursory stats and couple of titles and make blanket statements about him as THE best center on both sides of the ball during his career. It wasn't so clearcut at the time...

Because you see....Africa...poor...he's honorable and full of grace. That means he didn't lose in the playoffs and had no flaws and fuck you.
Don't you get it?
Taking a break from the board. Please reference my last post for more details if you are interested.

It was after he took it to Robinson in the playoffs in 1995. He'd already slapped Ewing around in the previous Finals.AbeVigodaLive wrote:Robceltsfan wrote:The Rockets had a six year stretch after losing to the Celtics in the Finals where they went 268-224 (.545), won ONE playoff series, and missed the playoffs once.

So here's some food for thought:
Rings
-----------
Hakeem - 2
LeBron - 2
Total MVPs
-----------
Hakeem - 3
LeBron - 6
career points
------------
Hakeem - 26,946 (9th all-time)
LeBron - 23,170 (27th all-time)
DPOY
-----------
Hakeem 2
LeBron 0
Steals
-----------
Hakeem - 2162 (8th all-time)
LeBron - 1444 (45th all-time)
All-star selections
-----------------
Hakeem: 12
LeBron: 10
Other accomplishments:
Hakeem:
3x bpg leader in a season
all time blocks leader
2x rebound champion
LeBron James:
1x scoring champion
I'd say that LeBron is the better player of the two but is it really that unreasonable to pick Olajuwon at this point?

Hakeem also missed 13 games during that 91-92 season. Rockets were also just 3 games out of the last playoff spot.Robceltsfan wrote:The Rockets had a six year stretch after losing to the Celtics in the Finals where they went 268-224 (.545), won ONE playoff series, and missed the playoffs once.

I voted for Hakeem, and in a hypothetical draft where both were available, I would pick him. But yeah, they are very very close. Can't go wrong with either, really.y2ktors wrote:So here's some food for thought:

He missed 12 games. They were 40-30 with him. 2-10 without him. I think they were eliminated on the last day of the regular season. That last game, he had 39/16/5 with 7 blocks. They weren't just short on talent, but had zero bench. The bench scored a total of THREE points in that last game of 1992.Da Stars. wrote:Hakeem also missed 13 games during that 91-92 season. When does voting close and #11 begin?
Also, I have a request. Can we rush through #11? It's obvious that whomever loses the #10 spot will win the #11 spot. No point in keeping the voting open for days. I say maybe half the normal voting time for the #11 spot.
