1997-2007 kobe wins fuck all. choke after choke after choke. 0 rings. but has 2 MVPS
2008 - Kobe goes to sanantonio to team up with Tim Duncan and Chris Paul. sabotages the finals cause Paul is in line for MVP
2009 - Kobe, Duncan and Paul win the finals against the magic ( kobe is league mvp and finals mvp )
2010 - Kobes spurs with Duncan and Paul choke the series away against boston. gets bailed out by a Manu series saving 3 pointer at the buzzer ) ( kobe is league mvp and finals mvp )
2011 - Kobe loses with Duncan and Paul ( kobe gets shut down by finals mvp James Jones ( on Miami )
2012 - Kobe goes back to LA to team up with Dirk and Westbrook... loses to finals mvp Shane Battier ( on Miami * Lebron sucks it up and kobe gets shut down by shane battier )
2013 - Kobe loses again with Dirk and and Westbrook to finals mvp Chris Bosh ( on Miami * Lebron sucks it up again and kobe gets shut down by shane battier again )

Bosh = Duncan?
Kyrie = Westbrook?
Dirk = Love?
Why didn't you just use the same players?

Nice bit of fiction....but Kobe wasn't good enough to win that many MVP's.

Re: imagine if this was kobes legacy
On a more normal team/career arc, Kobe pre-Gasol (or a Gasol-like player), would have won a heaping bag of dicks and that's it.
Taking a break from the board. Please reference my last post for more details if you are interested.

There is nothing normal about playing with a starting 5 that includes Smush Parker, Luke Walton, Lamar Odom, and Chris Mihm.

There is also nothing normal about spending your early years playing alongside the most dominant force in the NBA.

Penny Hardaway, Eddie Jones, and Nick Van Exel were awarded that same luxury.

20-23 year old Shaq....while also playing some of that time in MJ's NBA....so no, they weren't afforded the same luxury as Prime Shaq.lettherebehouse wrote:Robceltsfan wrote:lettherebehouse wrote:

Haters are not going to appreciate what you just wrote, but it shows the numerous passes that LeBron has been given.Kennethgriffin wrote:1997-2007 kobe wins fuck all. choke after choke after choke. 0 rings. but has 2 MVPS

No, that's not an average roster.lettherebehouse wrote:

But it's also relatively obvious that Kobe simply cannot be the one and only (see Lebron in Cleveland 1.0) and win big.
So, if Kobe had Lebron's career/situations...it would have probably gone
Winless until getting the sidekick (like Lebron)
Finally getting the supporting talent and bouncing around some rings, mixed in with a terrible Finals (like Lebron)
Gradually fading from the elite status and top ranks (see Lebron 2020).
Kobe's career would have been Lebron's career, except with less winning in Cleveland 1.0 and probably a different type of error in Miami/Dallas (instead of playing someone passively, playing aggressively to an absurdity).

That's a lot of hypothetical speculation. What we do know as fact, is that that putrid level of a team with an emerging Bynum was dramatically teetered into greatness with just a sprinkle of formidability in Gasol's arrival. You've seen great players in the league throughout who couldn't swing that type of balance with far more impacting "on paper" additions. How many "big 3s", let alone "big 2s", have we seen over the past 16 years fail at even getting to the Finals? Kobe did it 3 straight times with nothing remotely close to adding prime Wade/Bosh level talent.

kobes 2006 roster would be in the east finals most seasons
and lebrons cavs were built on defense and three point shooting.. if you knew anything about basketball you'd have known this
kobes teams with smush and kwame weren't built on anything... just ymca trash that actually were quoted saying "don't pass me the ball. i might fumble it" - kwame brown

Not really.lettherebehouse wrote:

We know he won nothing without a strong sidekick (like Lebron).
We know that he stumbled in multiple Finals (like Lebron).
We know that when placed in a terrible team situation, he won 0.0000 playoff series (unlike Lebron, albeit out West).
None of that is guesswork.
In lead dog roles (apples to apples):
With elite supporting talent, Kobe = Lebron in winning.
Without elite supporting talent Lebron > Kobe in winning.
It's an objective fact, and not open for debate.

What is open for debate, is what we consider "elite supporting cast". Your "normal team" comment has more to do with the 2007-2010 Lakers, than any of the 11-14 Heat rosters who was/is universally considered as an elite collection of players.

only one guy in nba history won anything without a strong sidekick
hakeem in 94
pau gasol on the other hand is probably the 5th or 6th lowest ranked 2nd option in championship history
while lebrons sidekick for his 2 titles has a top 20 all time ranking and is only below
- Kobe Bryant
- Jerry west
- John Havlicek
- Kareem abdul jabbar
- Magic Johnson
- Tim Duncan

Yes clearly elite, that's why they didn't fall like a rock once Lebron left.lettherebehouse wrote:[
