I love the science crowd. most of whom don't even hold a BS, couldn't make an A in HS Chem much less bio chem or college level physics. You learn about the code in biochem. It really does exist. It's all chemistry, you and I are nothing more than a symphony of chemical reactions. It's beyond amazing.

Even the flaws have a place in the grand scheme and that is the beauty of it all.

Usually the signaling attempt is meant to signal sophistication, intelligence, and "free-thinking/open-mindedness".

I don't think everyone who is an atheist and believes in evolution needs to understand evolution and science fully. I see how it may sound silly when they/I use it in an argument and don't understand all the details. But I've chosen to be an audio engineer, not a scientist. I've heard scientists explain evolution and it made sense to me. I didn't take notes and didn't memorize it, or study it further. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I don't think anyone would argue you need deep-level knowledge of evolution to have a happy and successful life. After all, the geniuses of antiquity (Christian or otherwise) had no meaningful knowledge about evolution, nor was it something that was even on their radar, and they were more intelligent and accomplished than 99.999+ percent of Atheists today.

However, that isn't really the crux of the annoyance. The crux of the annoyance is when people think they absorb the characteristics I mentioned above simply as a function of parroting a scientist or defaulting to the opinion of whatever the "correct" authorities have to say on the topic.

Beyond that type of annoyance, it can be a bit problematic when the subject moves from something relatively unambiguous with stupefying amounts of evidence like evolution to scientific matters that are more ambiguous and unsettled (lots of social science topics for example. Nutrition is another good example).

If your truth-telling mechanism is underdeveloped (or nonexistent), how do you separate truth from fiction in those cases? After all, "making sense to me, the layman" isn't a particularly high hurdle to clear. There are a lot of plausible non-absurd sounding hypotheses that are relatively misdirected, or even outright wrong (again, track "expert" knowledge of nutrition over the last 50 years for examples of this).
