The success of those Bulls squads were massively predicated on defense.....particularly perimeter defense. I'm pretty sure that hand check rule HELPED them defensively far more than it hurt them offensively.

In the 1998 ECFs, Scottie Pippen's defense on Mark Jackson was basically grabbing his jersey, pushing him backwards, and roundhouse kicking him in the head.
