I can't believe at one point, I wanted the Lakers to go after Ty Lawson
Washed the fuck up at the age of 28. And with a PER of 8.39, he ain't even the worst point guard on the Rockets roster (Beverley 7.35). Lost his starting spot, and now sits at #3 on the depth chart behind Beverley and Jason Terry.

He was solid in Denver. What the hell happened to him?

To be fair, Beverley has been injured... and plays better defense than Lawson. I'm very surprised at how quickly Lawson has fallen off the cliff.
The thing is... I think there were rumors he was careening down a bad path. I remember reading an article from Zach Lowe last year that Lawson's behavior had hit the alarming stage.
Then, the DUIs... then, this sort of play. Yuck.

I guess the easy answer would be, he got fat, stopped caring, can't shoot, needs the ball to be effective, yada yada yada. His shooting numbers have dipped every season since coming into the league, and with Harden on the team, he simply doesn't have the ball enough to be an effective playmaker.

If he gets his shit straight off the court, he can look to Rondo as a player who at the same age was thought to have hit rock bottom playing under Carlisle, and found it in himself to reinvent himself in possibly a new situation next season (assuming Houston can find a way to part ways with him).

Something has stunk about Lawson for awhile, it just took some time to sniff him out (pun intended).gaskill15 wrote:James Harden and Dwight Howard happened.King Deez wrote:He was solid in Denver. What the hell happened to him?
Consider this: the Nuggets trade for Iguodala, then go on to win 57 games in the west. Afterwards, they fire their head coach (who won COY that season) and their GM, and Iguodala-- arguably their best player-- leaves money on the table to bail on them, stating in an interview that they didn't care enough when they lost in the playoffs (a pretty gnarly indictment).
Then consider this: the team hires Brian Shaw, and the team-- with Lawson as arguably their best player-- not so subtly quit on him midway through his first season.
Finally, the Nuggets decide to trade a guy who has exhibited fringe All Star talent at only 27 years old after he gets two DUIs within 6 months of each other.
When you follow the breadcrumbs, you ultimately reach the conclusion that Ty Lawson = huge (or little) turd.

I wouldn't look to Rondo for a damn thing. Once that guy got paid in Boston, his play, attitude, and effort instantly all became erratic. They eventually dealt him to DAL, where he was such a shit that his teammates voted unanimously to not give him a playoff share...lettherebehouse wrote:AbeVigodaLive wrote:lettherebehouse wrote:Washed the fuck up at the age of 28. ...then he discovers-- probably to his great shock-- that nobody wants to pay him big money on a long term deal! So what does he do next?
He signs a 1 year deal on shitty team where he knows he'll start, stat-pad despite losing, and where he can show the world how much his attitude has improved and he's changed.
Someone is going to give Rondo a big 3-4 year deal this off-season-- most likely somebody shitty who feels they need to take the risk. Let's see how he is AFTER he gets paid...again...

That's quite an indictment, and makes sense given his track record. However, given how things went in Dallas, did he have a choice going into this past offseason? Like any other pro athlete, they do have to look out for themselves first after they've fallen from grace, to find their way back, market themself. I can't fault him for the Sacramento deal, who are actually respectable when Cousins is healthy (small sample size: 6-5).
I'll see how things play out for him going forward beyond this season before passing down permanent judgement, but like Lawson, they've both found themselves recently at rock bottom. Maybe, Lawson can crawl his way back out of it given his age (like Rondo appears to be doing).

2013-15 Lawson + Harden backcourt could have been amazing. He might be going to jail for 6 months so he's probably in IDGAF mode these days.
Re: I can't believe at one point, I wanted the Lakers to go after Ty Lawson
I'm not saying for absolute certain that Rondo will go back to his schmuck ways after he gets paid again, and I'm also not saying that taking a short deal for a shit team where he could stat-pad wasn't the best move for him in the short term from a financial perspective...lettherebehouse wrote:rtiff68 wrote:I wouldn't look to Rondo for a damn thing. ...I will say that had he taken a 1 year deal to play a smaller role on a good team, I would be more convinced that his "attitude turn-around" was indeed sincere. Then again, like I said, putting up big numbers is probably more likely to get him paid, and that would be important to anyone, as much as some pretend to be above it.
Color me skeptical until I see him behave once the money starts to roll in again. Keep in mind that Rondo started becoming a shit not only once he got his deal, but once the big 3 were traded and the team started to lose as well. Someone is going to give Rondo that money, but it more than likely won't be an upper-echelon playoff team.
Re: I can't believe at one point, I wanted the Lakers to go after Ty Lawson
I said this in a thread a few weeks back...I'm not really sure they could have been. At the end of the day, both guys are better with the ball in their hands and neither guy defends.Havlicekstealsit wrote:2013-15 Lawson + Harden backcourt could have been amazing. Now, starting Beverley and bringing 2013-2014 Lawson off of the bench but playing him 30ish mpg in the Ginobili role? That would have been dynamic...
