Was going to put up the Christmas tree today

It's pitifully small and cheap. I don't remember where I put the damn thing though.

Yep. Found the decorations in a box under the bed in the spare room and the tree on top of the wardrobe in the bedroom.

I saw yours. It looks nice, man. And yes, we do have to make do. Haters can piss off.

The way I see it is there is no perfect compromise living in foreign lands. But Asia beats anywhere else on earth in terms of relative safety and peaceful people. I am thankful God directed my path to this place. Sure Korea sucks sometimes, but when I think of how bored I was back home, this place isn't so bad.

That's true. I'll likely miss the place when I eventually leave. China isn't so different from Korea. The people here are much nicer and Shanghai is more internationally friendly, but other than that it is pretty much the same. I'm actually more bored here than I would be back home at this point of life, though.

That could be true (about the boredom china vs. home). There are times when I feel like I want to be back home, but that is mainly for my daughter to gain some new experiences that I enjoyed when I was younger, not for myself

I miss playing golf, fishing, being around family during holidays, etc...

I've got it pretty good here (the reason why I keep putting off leaving), but the pull to go home is strong. When I left Korea I hadn't saved so much; now is a different story.

thats the thing bro, you will not save like you could in Asia (well i couldnt because my wife works here and has a nice paying job) but you exchange that for fleeting moments of family and gold/fishing.

The plan is two years back home to see if it is feasible to continue living there. I'll get re-certified for teaching during that time while working part time tutoring Koreans or Chinese. We will burn through some savings initially but if both of us work we should be able to sustain without going through too much. It's a crap shoot for sure.

That is a good figure. I have half of that alone. The wife has that figure from the sale of her apt last year.
