Jordan has proven that he's doesn't a great sense of analyzing and scouting when it comes to building teams.Bush4Ever wrote:In one of MJ's biographies he mentions an episode where the Bulls had options on the table to pursue Walter Davis, Danny Ainge, or Dennis Hopson. Jordan (because of the NC connection especially) aggressively voiced his opinion to the front office they should pursue Davis, but that Ainge would be a respectable option as well.y2ktors wrote: He is just a name that came to mind so I wanted to see who all had some knowledge of him and his career. To my surprise, I saw that he's still the leading scorer in Suns history.
But Davis's wife didn't want to move to Chicago, and Krause avoided Ainge and went with Hopson, citing something along the lines of him "just needing a change in scenery" to perform, after being in a miserable situation in New Jersey.
[Note: To Jordan's semi-credit, in the same book he also admits he was basically wrong about the Cartwright/Oakley trade.]

Another name that should be in the mix is Grant Hill. Someone mentioned him last round. Overall, at his best, he was probably better than every player that has already been nominated In this round.

Grant Hill's *total* lack of success as a lead player is troublesome.
No one would expect him to win a title, but to not win even a playoff series is rough, especially considering we got at least one title winner on board with a mostly comparable number of good years.

Taking a break from the board. Please reference my last post for more details if you are interested.

Dominique "I'm ain't playing for the fucking Jazz" Wilkins.
Re: 2015 Anger General Greatest post-merger Players of All Time #37
His best player was an old Joe Dumars In several years, 1 year of Allan Houston and then an uninspired Bison Dele. It's pretty hard to fault him for that, especially when he didn't actually perform badly in any of those series before the injury.Bush4Ever wrote:Grant Hill's *total* lack of success as a lead player is troublesome.

Since were ignoring the fact that Wilkins was perennial loser during his time in the NBA while being a blackhole on offense, why is Melo not gaining any traction yet especially since Melo has had just as much if not more team success even at this point in his career?
They are very similar players tbh.

Nobody is ignoring it, but Nique consistently ran into better teams in the playoffs. The three seasons they had their best shot....they lost to Bird's Celtics, the Bad Boy Pistons, and then Bird's Celtics again.876Stephen wrote:Since were ignoring the fact that Wilkins was perennial loser during his time in the NBA while being a blackhole on offense, why is Melo not gaining any traction yet especially since Melo has had just as much if not more team success even at this point in his career?

They're "close" to each other comparatively, but Nique is above Melo overall.
Nique was top 10 in PER 7 times....Melo just 3. Nique had more MVP shares more often than Melo. Nique was his generations best scorer outside of one man.....the GOAT.
Just my $.02.

And not that you can reduce careers to single games, but Nique did this....

[Note: Randy Wittman went 11 for 13. Wow.]

Has Melo ever lost in the playoffs with a team most people perceived as better? Like Wilkins he's always lost to worse teams.Robceltsfan wrote:Nobody is ignoring it, but Nique consistently ran into better teams in the playoffs. Melo had to against the Spurs with prime Duncan, Parker, Ginobli and the Kobe-Pau lakers. He goes to New York and has to go against the big three plus rondo celtics and Lebron led Miami Heat.
Melo 8 all star games to Wilkins 9, Melo was just as good a pure scorer and better shooter. Melo has been one of the best scorers since he came into the league.
Im no Melo fan at all. He's in that group of overrated players who won't win you anything like Wilkins, Paul, Howard etc. But to have Wilkins already get picked and Melo not even be nominated yet is weird. There isn't a huge gap between them.
Re: 2015 Anger General Greatest post-merger Players of All Time #37
Nique was closer to his peers in terms of impact on a regular basis than Carmelo has been to his peers. That's the difference for me.876Stephen wrote:Has Melo ever lost in the playoffs with a team most people perceived as better? Dennis Johnson's time has come. Thanks to Y2ktors for including him with only two posters (myself and Rob) including him.
