Nique is one of the biggest victims of circumstance as far as NBA stars go. In his career he had to deal with the early 80's Sixers...the 80's Celtics...the Bad Boy Pistons...and then Jordan's Bulls. Even his status as a star was always second fiddle to either Bird or Magic or Jordan. He was the afterthought star of the NBA.

In short....I'll vote Nique.

If we're in Mutombo territory, then I think it's time to nominate Dennis Rodman too. Might be time for Dennis Johnson too.

Both of them had more team success (as cogs in the machine) than Mutombo ever did.

Mutombo does have the advantage of being a decent lead dog for a few years Over Rodman. But I don't think that it's enough to not consider Dennis.

I'm not sure what the angle could possibly be for Walter Davis at this point.

One of MJ's basketball heroes though.

He is just a name that came to mind so I wanted to see who all had some knowledge of him and his career. To my surprise, I saw that he's still the leading scorer in Suns history.

In one of MJ's biographies he mentions an episode where the Bulls had options on the table to pursue Walter Davis, Danny Ainge, or Dennis Hopson. Jordan (because of the NC connection especially) aggressively voiced his opinion to the front office they should pursue Davis, but that Ainge would be a respectable option as well.

But Davis's wife didn't want to move to Chicago, and Krause avoided Ainge and went with Hopson, citing something along the lines of him "just needing a change in scenery" to perform, after being in a miserable situation in New Jersey.

[Note: To Jordan's semi-credit, in the same book he also admits he was basically wrong about the Cartwright/Oakley trade.]
