When you quote somebody... you should use the actual quote. I didn't write that.

Both are, in my opinion, better scorers than English, and they actually did other things on the court too.

Alex English...
Wilkins had more range for sure but it's highly debatable as to who the better scorer was.
I don't see how. For a 10 year stretch Nique averaged 28.0 PPG........English only hit that number 4 times (including a 27.9 season). Nique was a better rebounder. Nique made numerous more All-NBA teams. Nique was top 5 in the MVP vote 3 times to English's zero. Nique was 1st or 2nd in PPG 5 times. English has a sub-20 PER.

I really don't see how English is better than Nique in any way.

And McGrady was probably better than both.....at least at his peak.
I'm not debating English > Nique overall. I'm stating that as scorers, it is debatable. English did his scoring without the help of the 3 PT line and superior athletic ability.

13 of English's 16 NBA seasons were with a 3-point line. Is he supposed to get brownie points for being less athletic and having less range?

English's volume scoring in Denver is slightly less impressive than it otherwise would have been because of the crazy pace the Nuggets played at in the 1980s.

However, that might mean his FG percentage is even more impressive, since quickened pace is usually associated with quicker and more rushed shots.

Looking at the PER 100 possessions might be revealing as far as volume stuff goes( vs. Wilkins/T-Mac).
Taking a break from the board. Please reference my last post for more details if you are interested.

It means that he had to be ELITE at what he did to score more points on around 50% FG than any other player in the 80s. A bit of that was the pace But that doesn't take away from his ability as one of the greatest mid-range shooters/scorers of all-time.

PER 100 comparison

Career

English: 30.2/7.7/5.1
Nique: 34.7/9.3/3.5

7-year peak

English: 33.7/6.4/5.7
Nique: 36.9/9.2/4.0

In his book "Living the Dream", Hakeem had a neat paragraph about English, highlighting how effortlessly he scored. Something along the lines of "he looked like he wasn't trying, but then you realized no one could guard him and he had 30 points".

He also highlighted English's unusual footwork. According to Hakeem, English would take one and a half steps (instead of 1 or 2 full ones) before shooting contested shots, which made blocking them extra-difficult.

If I were to ever believe in "pure scorer," he'd be it.

So I have to ask because I'm not fully understanding it:

Why Pau over Mourning?

Offense.....efficiency.....and rings.

That's been the general gist.

Except Pau wasn't as efficient and isn't overwhelmingly the more skilled offensive player. He certainly doesn't even begin to compare defensively either.
