2015 Anger General Greatest post-merger Players of All Time #29
Re: 2015 Anger General Greatest post-merger Players of All Time #29
Leaning towards CP but still deciding.
Nominate Pau Gasol and believe I've made a case for him in recent AG threads, but can discuss further if anyone wants.

Im picking Mourning just to stop Paul from being nominated imo. I'd go Iverson, Pierce, Curry, Walton all ahead of him.
Re: 2015 Anger General Greatest post-merger Players of All Time #29
Nominate Robert Parish btw.

This sounds almost political. "I voted for X candidate simply because he's not Y candidate"876Stephen wrote:Im picking Mourning just to stop Paul from being nominated imo. I'd go Iverson, Pierce, Curry, Walton all ahead of him.

It's a common theme. It happened a lot in the first top 50 all time threads.Havlicekstealsit wrote:This sounds almost political. I just don't believe Paul should be ahead of other star/superstar type players who won titles or made finals in prominent roles.
And it's a total lie that he hasn't been put in positions to succeed, like an easily refutable lie.
And why aren't guys like Melo and Dominique gaining traction in this discussion? They have pretty stats too and in Melo's case more playoff success.
Re: 2015 Anger General Greatest post-merger Players of All Time #29
Just want to point out one thing:
Pointing out career totals for and against Walton is pretty much useless. It's a given that he had injuries that Contributed to lack of longevity.

Walton at his peak was def better than anyone else were considering right now.y2ktors wrote:Just want to point out one thing:

I can't think of a time when CP3 had a team that was clearly better than the team that went on to defeat his team.876Stephen wrote:It's a common theme. Is that criteria? You have to be clearly better than the other team to beat them? That's usually not the case especially in the later stages of playoffs.y2ktors wrote:I can't think of a time when CP3 had a team that was clearly better than the team that went on to defeat his team.876Stephen wrote:It's a common theme. 2008 WCSF, Paul had homecourt against the spurs and in the critical game 7 didn't perform well.
How about the very next postseason when he gets gentlemanly swept by the Melo-led nuggets(lol) including a 58 point home playoff loss. He was awful the whole series. He got outplayed by David West
He then gets swept by the Spurs in 2012 in embarrassing fashion and plays like shit the whole series. Or in 2013 when he had home court against the grizzlies and lost in 6.
Or in 2014 against the Thunder where he had one of the biggest single game chokes in NBA history in game 5.
And of course last year needs no explanation, and was another chris paul led choke job.
Sorry, you can't give him all of the credit and none of the blame.
This is where you use the not enough help excuse.

In New Orleans he had 20-10 prime all star David West, dpoy level Tyson Chandler, sharpshooter Peja , lockdown defender James Posey etc. He wasn't playing with tomato cans in New Orleans like the apologists want you to believe.
We don't even need to get into how stacked his team in L.A have been.

Paul didn't have a single bad game in the Thunder series, and the game 7 in 2008....?????....he went for 18 points...8 rebounds....14 assists....5 steals.
Nice job trying to rewrite history though.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are dumber than that.

NewOrleans had a wretched bench back then. In '08 Morris Petersen was a starter....and if memory serves Manu shit on him that series.

The problem is that at his "peak" he still missed over 70 games in 3 seasons.876Stephen wrote:Walton at his peak was def better than anyone else were considering right now.y2ktors wrote:Just want to point out one thing:

Not a Chris Paul fan... but let's delve deeper into your generalizations:
2008. Game 7:
Paul had 18 points / 8 reb / 14 ast / 5 stls / 4 TOs. Not a great game, but not terrible. Somehow... SA won despite Ginobili shooting 6 - 19, Duncan shooting 5 - 17 and Parker shooting 7 - 17 fg. For some reason, Jannero Pargo took 16 shots in 26 minutes for the Hornets.
2009
17/4/10... and an uncharacteristically high 5 TOs per game. Not a good showing.
2012
Ugly. He shot about 37% and all his stats were down.
2013
Not so fast.
23 ppg / 4 reb / 6 ast / 53% fg and only 1.5 TOs per game.
Blake Griffin averaged 13/6/45% fg on a bad ankle. I don't know how far it is to blame this one on Paul.
2014
I was near giddy watching the Game 5 meltdown.
All that being said... you completely omitted any of his successes in the postseason. It only seems right that they at least get mentioned with his foibles. I'll start...
2015
Battling an injury, Paul shot 9 - 13 fg for 27 points and 6 assists vs. only 1 TO in Game 7 vs. the defending champs. He also scored 4 points in the final 13 seconds, including the game winner.

To be fair, David West never even averaged 9 rebounds.
And Peja shot 39.9% and 40.4% from the field his last two seasons in New Orleans.
Re: 2015 Anger General Greatest post-merger Players of All Time #29
No one is saying that he's been perfect. People are saying that he hasn't had an elite supporting cast like some of his peers have had...and because of that he has not experienced great team success In the postseason.876Stephen wrote:Is that criteria? You don't dissect any other player the way that you do Chris Paul bro. I don't get why that is. Dude is a great, great player.

Decided I'm going with Zo. Paul has unfinished business to take care of.
