Top 5 individual Scoring games in last 25 years...

Post by thedangerouskitchen »

Which of these (Top 5 individual Scoring games) is most impressive:

1) 2006 Kobe: 28-46 for 81 points vs. the Raptors (29th ranked Defense out of 30 teams)

2) 1994 Robinson: 26-41 for 71 points vs. the Clippers (18th out of 27)

3) 1990 Jordan: 23-37 for 69 points vs. the Cavs (10th out of 27)

4) 2007 Kobe: 23-39 for 65 points vs. the Blazers (26th out of 30)

5) 1993 Jordan: 27-49 for 64 points vs. the Magic (12th out of 27)

I dunno... when you factor in opposing Defense it's hard to argue against C, Jordan's 69.

What say you?

Lebron could never go for 60 that would be wayyy too many layups.

I laughed out loud when he commented on how he could score 50 at will.

Lebron would drop 80 with ease in the fast paced early '90s.

Jordan is a better scorer than your hero Lebron and he didn't. Please explain.

No one but Kobe has ever been capable of reaching 80. Wilt playing against 5'11 white guys in a game from the 1800's counts for about as much as me dropping 130 with Kobe on NBA2k.

I could see Carmelo dropping 80 if he got calls that he deserved in his career. and Maybe more if he received treatment like Durant, Harden, etc.

Hand-checking was eliminated in '94 & forearm defending was dropped in '97, so any scoring feat after that time period you have to take in the fact defenders are barely allowed to touch you anymore. While Kobe's 81 was a great show, watch the tape of the game and you'll see him coast on offense mostly untouched and rarely double-teamed.

in the last 25 years of players scoring 60+ Jordan was the only player to shoot under 35% from the 3 (20% and 33%)

everyone else either shot 40% or higher. 3 players didn't take a 3 point shot.

Shaq must have just missed the cut with the 61 he dropped on the Clippers.

Seems like a pretty cursory way of looking at things.
But, if he wants to use one out of about 87 different variables to tout his guy... so be it.

Just seems like it's a lot of effort for very little impact.

Are you suggesting there is a problem with looking at the Defense of the opposition, when comparing individual scoring games? If so, what criteria might you say is more relevant?

Makes sense, since 3-point shooting wasn't really a part of the game back then. Case in point: Jordan attempted a total of just 14 long-range shots in his five (5) 60-point games... less than 3 a game. By contrast Kobe, for example, attempted 48 long-range shots in the 5 games he scored 60 or more points (almost 10 a game).

I dunno... when you factor in opposing Defense it's hard to argue against C, Jordan's 69.

What say you?
Where is Kobe's 63 in three quarters, against the Mavericks in 2000?

Kobe's 63 (which is actually 62) is tied for only the 6th top individual scoring game dumb ass, not Top 5.

Listen dunski... it's not my fault Kobe's 62-point game DOESN'T rank Top 5 in modern NBA history.

Kobe's 81. Lots of teams played against that crappy Raptors D. Nobody came close to 81. Nobody will come close again to 80 in a long time.
