Yep. Even MLS teams are trying to turn players away from NCAA soccer by growing the USL. MLB and the NHL also aren't that reliant on the NCAA. On the other hand, the NFL and NBA developed after college and high school football/basketball were already entrenched in our sporting culture, so educational institutions ended up serving in that farm system role. As a result, the NCAA system as we know it is broken. At least the top 1% 18-year-old basketball prospects have non-college options. The top 1% 18-year-old football prospects? Not so much.

I believe it's just American football tbh. The major 4 sports in the US has a type alternative option besides football. Hockey,baseball,basketball, you can all make money right out of HS. The NCAA system isn't perfect, but it's up to these kids to take advantage of free education they are getting. They choose not too, then cry about the NCAA taking advantage of them.

Not really. There has been players in recent years who go play overseas for a season, get paid millions and then declare for the draft a year later. Jennings did that, Mudiay just did it as well.

I can see a day where the NBA won't be as reliant on the NCAA to produce future stars, and both the league and college game will be better off because of it. There is the idea that losing out on the one-and-done tier prospects (who barely attend classes) would kill college basketball, but I don't think that's true. College men's basketball has years of history and tradition, so I can see the product selling itself even if the one-and-done types never step foot on an NCAA court.

Hell, do it for high school too. Remember how much money LeBron's school made during his high school days with all those packed gyms. Why can't he get paid. Heck, people pay money to see some AAU tournaments. The kids should get that money!!!
