No it's the fact that that postseason by Dirk was better than any postseason Malone or Robinson ever had. The Mavs were underdogs in every series that postseason. In terms of being a clutch performer, few are better than Dirk.wailuaFC wrote:Does dirk not get a huge boost for beating the horrible tyrant that is lebron James? I mean people are considering a serial playoff underachiever like Malone and David Robinson.
David Robinson's legacy was saved by Tim Duncan. No lie. Those 2 titles he has, no matter how small of a role it was, seriously boost his all time case.

Not only that but Dirk was better than Robinson in the postseason, which is proven statistically.

One terrible series which would have defined his career if he hadn't redeemed himself in amazing fashion in 2011. I could point out one bad series for Malone and Robinson as well.vcsgrizzfan wrote:Especially in 2007 against the Warriors.876Stephen wrote:No it's the fact that that postseason by Dirk was better than any postseason Malone or Robinson ever had. I was being tongue in cheek, not serious. He's generally a much better playoff performer than Malone by a good margin.876Stephen wrote:One terrible series which would have defined his career if he hadn't redeemed himself in amazing fashion in 2011. he gets the most insanely silly boost in his ranking because of that championship. He was an awesome player don't get me wrong, but when Robinson has more titles, was a much better defender and at his peak was a better scorer then dirk, I don't see how you can put dirk ahead of him876Stephen wrote:No it's the fact that that postseason by Dirk was better than any postseason Malone or Robinson ever had. Robinson, has more titles? Really. Like i said, Robinson was old and past his prime and had already proven throughout his career he couldn't win as the franchise player. Like i said, Duncan saved Robinson's legacy.wailuaFC wrote:he gets the most insanely silly boost in his ranking because of that championship. And Robinson at his peak being a better scorer than Dirk is questionable.
What's not questionable is the fact that Dirk for his whole career has been the better scorer with more longevity. Dirk at 35 is still dropping 20 a game on almost 50% shooting. Robinson at in his late stages was a rebounder and defensive specialist riding Duncan to championships.

And looking at that list Dirk has same # of mvp's a fmvp which Robinson does not have. More all nba selections with clearly more longevity as an effective player.
Robinson was the much better defender which is obviously very important for big men but it don't think that's enough for me to say he has a better resume than Dirk.

K. Malone > Dirk
People act like Malone was horrible in the playoffs, he practically had the same average he did in the regular season.
25.0 Reg
24.7 Playoffs
Also his career numbers all across the board are better while playing in a tougher era.
Now I realize the one glaring omission is the title, but sometimes you have to look at the whole body of work and Malone in my opinion WAS the better player.

46% shooter in the playoffs without shooting 3s. Puke for a PF and part of the reason he had 9, count them, 9 first round exits.dwcmwa wrote:K. Malone > Dirk

Dirk had many 1st round exits (7) as well before finally breaking through in 2011, and he also wasn't the scoring machine, defender or as athletic as Malone.

Robinson gets my vote as well.

Was dirk the better scorer? He averaged a whopping 1 ppg more (on a worse percentage) despite not having to share the ball with a duncan and Robinson has the highest single season average between the two. Sure dirk has two more all NBA teams, but you just casually glossed over the 8-0 advantage Robinson has as far as defensive teams go. Dirk was good, but as that link shows Robinson had better years scoring, passing, rebounding, and especially defensively, I gotta go with the admiral876Stephen wrote:wailuaFC wrote:he gets the most insanely silly boost in his ranking because of that championship. Compare their total shooting % in the playoffs for me. Thanks.dwcmwa wrote:vcsgrizzfan wrote:46% shooter in the playoffs without shooting 3s. Puke for a PF and part of the reason he had 9, count them, 9 first round exits.dwcmwa wrote:K. Malone > Dirk

Malone was 2 tenths better overall, Dirk was much better from 3 and the FT line, but Malone was not a 3-pt shooter.vcsgrizzfan wrote:Compare their total shooting % in the playoffs for me. Thanks.dwcmwa wrote:vcsgrizzfan wrote:

So answer the question. What is each player's total shooting% in the playoffs? I'll be waiting. Even though Robinson had his shortcomings in the playoffs before Duncan he was part of that new breed of center along with Hakeem in terms of a center who can score, rebound, block, and get a few steals and assists as well as being super athletic and fast for his size.

Drob shouldn't get all that much credit for the 2003 title. He was pretty much shot by then and Malik Rose actually played more total minutes than Drob at C for the Spurs that season.
On the plus side, his early years included some great, great seasons overall, and because of his navy commitment he was robbed of some good seasons early when he was an athletic beast.

Re: 2015 Anger General Greatest post-merger Players of All Time #12
Both Robinson and Duncan in their first seasons turned the Spurs from a 20 to 21 win team to a 56 win team and took them to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
