I don't recall any debate I've ever had about Pit Bulls on this board (I'm not definitively saying it never happened, just that I don't recall it).
Certain breeds do have certain tendencies naturally (my Golden loves swimming; my German Shepherd mix is a sweetheart but doesn't like strangers, etc.). That said, I am more of a "nurture" than "nature" guy when it comes to dog breeds.
Here's how you fix the Pit Bull problem (and it is a problem, as animal shelters are stockpiled with Pit mixes people don't want because of their reputation and the fact that they don't know the history of the animal): if you want to breed your Pit Bull, the license costs 10k. If you're caught breeding or cross breeding your Pit w/o a license, the fine is 5K.
Dog breed purists can still breed full blooded red and blue nose Pits; Fucktards who don't give a shit about their animals and just want "tough dogs" stop letting their neglected and abused Pits breed recklessly because it hits them where it hurts-- their wallets.
Everyone wins...the dogs included.
This is extremely sensible and I would support it. I think that should be for all dogs. There would be a lot less dog ownership which in my opinion, isn't a bad thing
I'm not sure it would be necessary for all dogs; of course, I tend to be pretty "anti-government license" in general (I just got back from DMV. The fact that I have pay hundreds of dollars per year for the right to drive my car-- registration fees-- is fucking bullshit).
Anyway, perhaps not all dogs, but maybe the more powerful breeds. If the government implemented something like I suggested, then the aforementioned Fucktard community would likely just move on to another powerful breed (Rottweilers, Dobermans, German Shepherds, etc.). If you're going to own an animal that has the the capacity to be dangerous, then you need to be a responsible owner who trains and treats the animal well.
It breaks my hear to look on Craig's List or walk through Animal Shelters and see 60-70% Pitt mixes who nobody wants because of the breed's capacity to be dangerous and because they don't know the history of the animal. I want to solve that problem, not simply pass the negative stigma on to another breed like the ones I mentioned above.
All dogs? I don't think it's necessary to go that far. Sling shots and AR-15's both shoot projectiles, but they're not exactly the same thing. It makes sense that you should have to spend a lot more money, pass a background check, etc. if you want to own the latter.
