Let's put it this way. Most Homeowners Insurance WILL NOT insure your household if you own a
Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Akita, Chow, Wolf-hybrid.

They have millions of stats backing this up. Pit Bulls are aggressive and deadly, bottom line.

We have a pitbull-boxer mix. Had one in NYC too and the discrimination over a fucking dog breed is all too real. It's a fucking dog, it's our responsibility - but hey real estate agents hear pit bull and suddenly get all Donald Sterling-y with their rentals.

Nobody is defending a dog but just because the numbers suggest X dog ibreed kills, why are HUMAN PARENTS are somehow completely absolved of any culpability when raising a dog and child at the same time?

That is actually an excellent point. Even though the vast majority of pit bulls are probably great, I would have never, ever owned one when my children were young. Even though the risk might be tiny, the consequences of that risk are catastrophic.

I know plenty of people who have pits and raised them with little kids and everything went fine...so I'm not picking on pits....but this is the scenario I ask people all the time. YOU MUST CHOOSE ONE. There are 2 rooms with no windows (you can't see in). One room has a yellow lab and one room has a pit bull. You are told both dogs are extremely friendly and loving. You have a 1 year old baby. You must put your baby on the floor in one of those rooms alone with the dog for 5 minutes. Which room would you choose?

I know which room I choose.

I don't like pit bulls one bit; the neighbor two houses up from me has one, and he's charged me while I'm running more than once. He's also charged my wife when she was walking our dogs (luckily for her, our Great Dane stepped in the middle and the pit hightailed it out of there.) He's even charged my daughter while she was on horseback. (She just kicked the horse into a gallop and left the dog in the dust.)
That dog is part of the reason I run with a knife now, and if presented a good opportunity I will go full Stars on that MFer. And if it ever comes in my yard, it will be sprouting crossbow bolts.

My sister in law has owned a couple of pits. They were/are very friendly and I play with them when I visit. My dog has gone over there as well and everything went fine. BUT...I would never let her dog sit my dog. Because if something goes wrong my dog would have been dead...and she's an untrustworthy idiot.

And that's the key - a human adult has to fucking think for maybe once in their life with dogs. We don't usually let out pitbull-boxer mix interact with other large dogs because he's kinda chill until the other dog gets all barky and chippy.

Sadly, the consequences of pit bull attacks are all too often devastating. Chihuahuas can be vicious, but who the hell cares. Pit bulls - different story whether lovers of the breed want to admit it or not.
