Why did the Magic buy out Davis?
Nothing more pathetic than openly tanking and giving up your best players for nothing. Shameful.

Youth movement. They fully expect playing the younger guys who haven't won shit, then drafting younger guys who haven't won shit, will somehow equal championships.

Havlicek, aka playing their worse players and losing intentionally, which is pathetic.

Re: Why did the Magic buy out Davis?
Big baby wasnt in the teams future plans..dropping him allows tobias harris...kyle oquinn and andrew nicholson more playing time and development time...
Dropping big baby also makes the roster entirely a roster hand selefted by the gm rob hennigan and wipes away every move that otis smith made..whole new team now..
Lol at kobeunderbite vastly overrating big baby.

Dropping him hurts the depth chart and gets worse players more minutes... got it.

Right, losing Davis doesn't hurt the team in any way.jjgator wrote:We're developing our young talent. We have won 6 of our last 7 at home; how do you explain that if you think our players are playing to lose? Playing Big Baby took away valuable minutes from Harris, Nicholson, and OQuinn and it would have been unfair to a guy like Baby to make him rot on the bench.

Are you really pretending that the 30 minutes a game Davis' would have played that will now be dispersed among 3 players is going to make a difference in their development?
It makes some sense now, the struggles that the Magic have had.

Not really..what did he do so great? he was like the fifth best player on the team and the other players are getting better as he gets worsekobeunderbite wrote:Right, losing Davis doesn't hurt the team in any way.jjgator wrote:We're developing our young talent. Tobias is already the better player ..your magic basketball IQ is horrendous

So they released the fifth best player on the time, by your own admission, but that doesn't hurt the team.
Very smart.

Re: Why did the Magic buy out Davis?
Davis doesn't prevent Olapido from getting big minutes. No reason he can't start with Davis on the team. And it won't make any difference.jjgator wrote:kobeunderbite wrote:jjgator wrote:

It will absolutely make a difference. Also consider this trade will most likely put Dipo in the starting lineup on a more permanent basis(Our old typical starting lineup was Jameer-Afflalo-Harris-Baby-Vuc, the one we used against the Knicks was Jameer-Dipo-Afflalo-Harris-Vuc). Dipo seems to play at his best when he plays big minutes(everything that was said about his motor pre-draft is true, he didn't even look remotely tired playing most of the second half and both OTs for a team high 49 minutes).

Re: Why did the Magic buy out Davis?
What do you mean? Just bring one of the veterans off the bench or go small. Seems pretty simple.jjgator wrote:How do we keep Harris in the starting lineup in that scenario? Playing Baby took a collective 30 MPG away from our other players that need as much experience as they can get. I don't see why you don't seem to get that. It's not like Baby would put us over the top. With all the young guys on our team we're a lottery team regardless; why make Baby suffer on a rebuilding squad?(he wanted to be bought out according to everything I've heard. He's a team player and would have continued to play hard for us, but he wanted to play for a contender). We tried to trade him, but we couldn't get a decent deal.kobeunderbite wrote:Davis doesn't prevent Olapido from getting big minutes. No reason he can't start with Davis on the team. No one suggested he would put them over the top, but he makes them a better team.
It was a move that made the team worse with 0 tangible benefit, only fairy tale benefit. It was a classless, tank move.
