How exactly do they calculate the DEF rating. Grant Hill is at a 63? WTF?
That's actually not that good for a SF, which was the main reason I stayed away.
This is the idea behind the calculation per the updated FAQ:
The defensive rating is based on what we call stop percentage, which is a statistical approximation of the percentage of defensive possessions where the player helps create a turnover, missed field goal, or missed free throw. This approximation is based on certain player stats (minutes, steals, fouls, rebounds and blocks), the player's position, certain team statistics (for and against), and a factor for league averages for that season.
Oh wow, that's actually a lot more in-depth than I thought it would be. I thought they'd just pull an NBA 2k and base it off reputation and steals/blocks.
Yeah, Penny and Marion both have higher DEF ratings (83 and 70 respectively) and that's why I preferred those two over Hill, but as someone said, Hill at #11 is an excellent pick.
