Re: 2014 Anger General Greatest of All Time #18
tough one but I will go with the NBA's first high flyer Mr. Elgin Baylor.
For his first 12 years in the league he averaged 27.6ppg 13.6rpg (amazing for a 6'5" small forward) and 4.3apg. Playoffs in that span was 27 12.9 4apg. Ranked 10th all time in rpg at 13.5. Best season was probably 60-61 when he averaged 34.8ppg 19.8rpg 5.1apg in 73 games. Averaged 38 in 62 but played in just 48 games due to military service. Holds the most points scored in a finals game with 61. Lead the playoffs in scoring for 4 straight years from 59-60 to 62-63. Over 23,000 points and 11,000 rebounds in his career.

Baylor has been dropping... then again... so did Jerry West. Fitting I guess since they were teammates for so long.
Elgin Baylor here.

People don't realize that he was basically unguardable in his prime. Probably the only 2 players who were able to guard him the best man to man was Cliff Hagan and/or Hondo.wailuaFC wrote:He's probably the guy next off my boardelmouse03 wrote:tough one but I will go with the NBA's first high flyer Mr. Elgin Baylor.

Wade
3 time NBA Champion, Finals MVP, has some legendary performances when it mattered the most. At his peak he was absolutely dominating. That's what is most important in my eyes. The fact that his peak was short doesn't diminish him too much.
I would say Baylor might have been better, but zero rings in 8 tries? That hurts.
I think Wade was better than Havlicek, and on par with Barry, but Barry only has one ring.
Wade is clearly better than the rest of the list that I didn't mention by name, in my opinion.

He had some crazy huge games in really clutch times and is the greatest rebounding small forward of all time.elmouse03 wrote:People don't realize that he was basically unguardable in his prime. My biggest knock on Elgin Baylor is that he was a big time volume shooter/scorer but on usually just average efficiency if not below average.elmouse03 wrote:People don't realize that he was basically unguardable in his prime. It's not a major knock but just something that is worth warranting.

Shot 43% from the field which I think was the norm in those days and heck it's even the norm for most players playing today.y2ktors wrote:My biggest knock on Elgin Baylor is that he was a big time volume shooter/scorer but on usually just average efficiency if not below average.elmouse03 wrote:People don't realize that he was basically unguardable in his prime. What super stars are you talking about? I mean Kobe who is #8 on the list only shot 45% from the field.y2ktors wrote:The superstars usually shot a higher % than that though.elmouse03 wrote:Shot 43% from the field which I think was the norm in those days and heck it's even the norm for most players playing today.y2ktors wrote: My biggest knock on Elgin Baylor is that he was a big time volume shooter/scorer but on usually just average efficiency if not below average.
