2014 Anger General Geatest of All Time: #12 selection
Re: 2014 Anger General Geatest of All Time: #12 selection
My first order of business will be to switch Wilt and Bird's positions on this list.
Taking a break from the board. Please reference my last post for more details if you are interested.

I believe Oscar won two playoff series in his entire career as the best player on his team. He completely missed the playoffs as the best player on his team more often than he won playoff series. His only ring was supporting Kareem.
I'm sorry, but I don't care how pretty the stats are, I can't accept that the 12th best player in NBA history has those black marks on his resume.

Who did you vote for at #12? (I haven't the inclination to wade back through the thread.)vcsgrizzfan wrote:I believe Oscar won two playoff series in his entire career as the best player on his team. My vote as well. I agree with your comments on O, though I suspect things are only going to get worse as we go. Meaning, there's a lot more consensus at the top of the poll than in the rest. On the other hand, that probably will spur more debate.vcsgrizzfan wrote:Mosesamericaninfidel wrote:Who did you vote for at #12? I hear what you're saying. My reasoning for picking him is that they simply couldn't match up with the teams in that conference on a regular. I don't fault him for that.vcsgrizzfan wrote:I believe Oscar won two playoff series in his entire career as the best player on his team. Who the fuck was Oscar playing with before he got Kareem? Jerry lucas was good player but other than that there was literally nothing. He was never going to compete against any of even the average teams let alone Wilt's sixers or Russell's celtics.y2ktors wrote:I hear what you're saying. Plus he gets bonus points for being of the leading pioneers of the modern game. Lebron, Dr J, Magic, Bird and others modeled their game after Big O. He was the original do everything well player.

No way... not with only 1 (second-fiddle) Ring. In fact I have (in no order) West, Pettit, Hondo, Moses and probably a few others ahead of Robertson.

Pettit is really the only true lead dog that won a ring as a lead dog in that bunch.thedangerouskitchen wrote:elmouse03 wrote:You don't think Oscar should be 12?thedangerouskitchen wrote:So who voted for Oscar... and based on what?

Re: 2014 Anger General Geatest of All Time: #12 selection
Funny story about Oscar Robertson and his all-time ranking.
Mike Francesa once went off on a rant about the players that would make it on NBA's "Mt. Rushmore" and he acted as though it was a foregone conclusion that Oscar would be included. A caller suggested that perhaps Mike was overrating Robertson, and Mike immediately cut him off and wouldn't hear any of it. He justified ranking Robertson ahead of Kobe based on Kobe's shortcomings without a talented supporting cast, completely ignoring the fact that over a 6-year stretch in his prime, Robertson missed the playoffs 3 times and was eliminated in the first round another 3 times.
I called up in a furious rage, and was put on hold, but never made it on the air.
Basketball is not Mike's sport.

Moses has a Ring and FMVP... and he was a 3-time regular-season MVP. West has 1 Ring and 1 FMVP, and aside from Jordan he is often regarded as the greatest Playoff/Finals performer ever. Hondo owns 8 rings (2 after Russ retired) and 1 FMVP.elmouse03 wrote:Pettit is really the only true lead dog that won a ring as a lead dog in that bunch.thedangerouskitchen wrote:elmouse03 wrote:
