2014 Anger General Greatest of All Time: #7 selection
Re: 2014 Anger General Top Ten Greatest of All Time: #7 selection
I just gotta say, you can already tell how it's gonna be with the rest of the spots on the top 10 list. Shaq will win the next spot, then it becomes a Kobe vs Hakeem battle (w/some spattering of Lebron for good measure), where morons will try to convince everyone that Hakeem's 2 titles somehow trump Kobe's 5, because Kobe wasn't "lead dog" for 3 of them. Then they'll try to make it a 2 titles vs 2 titles discussion, which it's not but whatever, Kobe gets credit for 5, just like Timmy gets credit for 5.
It's gonna be a headache. Oh and anyone that votes for Mikan in the top 10 better have a fucking magnificent argument prepared.

I'm tempted to kick his drunk ass off the Bulls fanbase for that one.
Only a blithering idiot (or a delusional Kobe Kid) thinks Kobe's belongs in the discussion for 7th greatest player of all-time. I mean, if that's the case then John Havlicek is Top 5 material easy.
You have fucking GEORGE MIKAN on your shit list, gramps. Your hate for Kobe is legendary and your opinion in this thread is worthless.
If Russell's 1950's accomplishments count then so too do Mikan's. If Mikan's Rings count then so should his status among the all-time greats. If the HOF deems his career worthy then his name clearly needs to be included in these lists.
But regardless of all that, Kobe doesn't sniff #7 all-time. Again, if he's #7 then Hondo is Top 5.

Hondo isn't top 10, and I think you'd be the only person on here ranking him, regardless of the reasoning involved.
As for Mikan, of course his titles count, his stats, but are those solely the reason you'd have him in the top 10? I distinctly remember you giving him "what if?" awards, as in "what if the FMVP was around back when he played? He'd have a ton!"

How many rings does Hondo have as the best player on his team? None until after Russell retired so how many exactly? How many MVPs? How many finals MVPs?thedangerouskitchen wrote:LakersNeedShaq wrote:thedangerouskitchen wrote:

Don't bother, grizz. TDK is determined to be overly harsh about Kobe's legacy.vcsgrizzfan wrote:How many rings does Hondo have as the best player on his team? None until after Russell retired so how many exactly? How many MVPs? How many finals MVPs?thedangerouskitchen wrote:LakersNeedShaq wrote:

Explain your reasoning for Kobe at 7 equaling Hondo in the top 5. No one ranks Kobe in the top 7 based solely on his titles, if that's what you're thinking.thedangerouskitchen wrote:As I said... IF Kobe is #7 all-time THEN Hondo is Top 5.LakersNeedShaq wrote:thedangerouskitchen wrote:

So 68 and 69 Russell > 68 and 69 Hondo...?
Havlicek won 1 Finals MVP and surely would have won at least 1-2 more if the award were around. He's at least as good as Kobe AND he owns 3 more Rings.

we should make a debate thread for some of this stuff so these top players lists can focus on what they need to focus on.
Re: 2014 Anger General Top Ten Greatest of All Time: #7 selection
Difference is, Mikan played in a segregated league, without a shot-clock, or offensive goaltending (there was no defensive goaltending when he first started from my understanding, but that rule was put into place in the 40s). Russell played his entire career with a shot-clock and rules prohibiting goaltending on both offense and defense. In addition, Russ dominated a league that was nearly 2/3 black by the time he retired (it's a little over 70% now).thedangerouskitchen wrote:LakersNeedShaq wrote:thedangerouskitchen wrote:

No disrespect to Big George, but I wouldn't consider him on any list, it was just a different sport back then.

Mikan is in the list after the top 10. Re: 2014 Anger General Top Ten Greatest of All Time: #7 selection
Anyhow, I don't think there were 6 players better than Hakeem, but I started watching when he was at his peak, so maybe I'm a bit high on him (though I'm also not a big box score stats or accolades guy, and he isn't winning either battle).
Nice to see some Kobe vs Duncan conversation here. I'm not going to cast a vote this round, but healthy debate is always good.

Re: 2014 Anger General Top Ten Greatest of All Time: #7 selection
What do you think guys? Do we need a player debate thread for some of these arguments that TDK is proposing for the likes of Mikan and Hondo are better then Kobe as well as Duncan vs Kobe and other current and/or past players?
