Meh. Cousy had been there for six years and Sharman for five and they had 2 playoff series wins total. In comes Russell and the Celtics trade their all star C as part of the deal for Russell, and the titles came. Cousy goes, Sharman goes and the titles never stop as long as Russell is there. Russell leaves, they go to the lottery even with Havlicek entering his prime.

I think you meant to say that the Celtics traded Macauley and Hagan for the draft rights to Russell. Macauley was considered the Celtics best player at the time and a seven time all star. Turns out that the Celtics didn't miss him did they?

I corrected it after i seen my mistake. Russell as well as Hagan were risks as all rookies are.

Honestly you could make a case for a 1a, 1b, 1c with Kareem, Jordan, or Russell in any order and a decent consensus could be reached. I tend to rank players by tiers instead of individual numbers. For example, the above three make up the upper crust tier, then guys like Magic, Bird, Wilt, and maybe Hakeem would be 2nd tier behind them, etc.

Not a huge Lew Alcindor fan, but I've always found it an easier argument to put him in the top 3... than outside it.
