As much as I love Hakeem, I'd pick '71-'75 Kareem instead.thedangerouskitchen wrote:Since the merger... factoring in Regular Season, Playoffs and Finals success:

How do you figure KG over Duncan when we're factoring in Regular Season, Playoffs and Finals success??
Also... Kobe over Jordan is a tuuuurrible troll attempt.

Regardless... Duncan won 2 FMVP's and 2 regular season MVP's during the 5 year peak I listed. That trumps anything KG did circa 01-05 (and I'm a HUGE Garnett fan BTW).kobeunderbite wrote:One player isn't solely responsible for his teams success/failures.thedangerouskitchen wrote:kobeunderbite wrote:Magic 84-88

You're entitled to your opinion. Ultimately we will never know what Garnett could have done with those SA teams.thedangerouskitchen wrote:Regardless... You're right... but this ranking is based on what the player/s actually did accomplish, not "what if" scenarios.

All Time Starting 5 = best players at each position (since the merger) based on their 5 year peak AND factoring in their RS, Playoffs and Finals success.

I like Hakeem and have him ahead of Kareem for 1-, 2-, and 3-year peaks, but I think it's tough between he and Cap (77-81) if we're doing 5 years.thedangerouskitchen wrote:fpliii wrote:Is this meant to be the best players at each position, or the best team? Then your opinion / post is disqualified because this thread clearly uses Playoffs / Finals success as part of the criteria.
That said, you ought to start a separate thread for guys like KG, Oscar, et al... ie; greatest individual players withOut the rings / awards.

Interesting pick... I went with 91-95 Dream because IMO he was a more dominating Defensive player (while right on par with 77-81 Jabbar Offensively), and because Olajuwon won 2 FMP's during that span.
That said, I wouldn't argue too much against your pick though... and obviously Shaq's 5 year run (with the 3-Peat years) is another legit choice; however I give Dream the edge because IMO he's the greatest 2-way Center ever.

Why are we factoring their team success?
Come at the King, you best not miss.
Re: My All-Time Starting 5 based on 5-year peak...
I might still go with Hakeem purely because I've seen more of him. I agree that he has a better case as a two-way center.thedangerouskitchen wrote:fpliii wrote:I like Hakeem and have him ahead of Kareem for 1-, 2-, and 3-year peaks, but I think it's tough between he and Cap (77-81) if we're doing 5 years.thedangerouskitchen wrote:

Kareem was actually a very good defender (particularly with the Bucks), but Hakeem has a case as the best non-Russell guy on that end. As you stated, he's probably the best two-way center as well (I think Wilt is the only other guy in the conversation, but he didn't really play offense and defense in the same season at the highest level).
