Re: JUst killed a dog.
What is a "pitbull type". I can't find that breed anywhere. Where are the cocker spaniels on these flawed list. Cocker Spaniels are known for their rage syndrome where they bite their owners. Doesn't usually end fatally so it wont make the list. There are a lot of breeds that fall into that category. When you clump a large group of dogs together "pitbull type", you get flawed data.jordanzone wrote:http://www.dogsbite.org/pdf/1979-1988-d ... lities.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;LookAway wrote:Can I have a link to those studies, I call bsjordanzone wrote:
..they were originally used to hunt larger game and eventually used in blood sports, both reasons being the size/strength...what you said is true also, as they did serve a viable purpose...my thing is that these breeds most definitely have a higher propensity to turn and studies have shown this...now, that's not to say they shouldn't be owned, just that whoever decides to take on this breed best take the time to work with them, and as I said before, they should be screened...because we both know there are wayyyy too many irresponsible/lazy dog owners...

A 5-year (2001–05) review of dog attack victims admitted to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia determined that pit bull terriers were implicated in more than half of the bites where breed was identified. Of the 269 patients where breed was identified, 137 (51%) were attacked by pit bulls.
The authors wrote:
"...the overwhelming number of bites involving pit bull terriers in this study and others certainly has some degree of validity when it comes to identifying bite-prone breeds. Pit bull terriers, German shepherds, and Rottweilers were the offending breeds implicated in our study, and have accounted for the majority of dog bites according to other investigators."
Pit Bull” is NOT a breed. It is a generic term often used to describe all dogs with similar traits and characteristics often known by the public as Pit Bulls. This article is addressed to owners of any “Pit Bull” type dog including American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers and Pit mixes.

Police work. Mainly Sheppard's and Belgian Mallys, but of course I trained my Pit mix for personal protection and my Shar pei to do agility. My shar pei has passed and the yellow dog in my profile is 13 and retired from everythingwailuaFC wrote:Staffordshires are freaking adorable, what were you training dogs for?LookAway wrote:I could see that. Come on WailuaFC - think a little. Abe is exactly right. Aggression only really matters if there are real consequences attached to it. It's as obvious as the nose on your face.wailuaFC wrote:I disagree, we are discussing aggression not the results of the aggression. Do pit bulls attacks result on more hospitalizations then dachshunds? Obviously, they are like 10 times the size, but does that make them the more aggressive breed? NopeAbeVigodaLive wrote:wailuaFC wrote: The problem with that study is its only documenting bites that resulted in hospitalization. Smaller dogs, dachshunds, chihuahuas, chow chows, all have a much higher attack rate, but they dont have the power that pits have, therefore it didnt lead to hospitalization
To be fair, that's pretty much irrelevant.
It's like showing a stat about the disproportionate number of murder victims by gunshot and then pointing out that it's not fair that the study doesn't include people who are slapped in the face.

I surely have bias in this argument, I can admit that, nonetheless this discussion was about pitbulls aggression compared to other breeds, not the results of their aggression.vcsgrizzfan wrote:Come on WailuaFC - think a little. This is like saying infants are more aggressive than inmates because people are hit by infants way more than they are by inmates.
Re: JUst killed a dog.
Like I said I have an admitted bias, I love pit bulls. My stance hasnt changed throughout this entire discussion, pitbulls are not even close to being the most aggressive dog breed. If people want pitbulls banned, they need to decide whether to ban all dogs that are more aggressive then pits as well, or all dogs that are of equal size as they could do a similar amount of damage.vcsgrizzfan wrote:If I didn't know your posting history, I'd swear you are trolling. That analogy is like saying that puppies are much more aggressive then full grown dogs because they are always biting thingsKingcarl24 wrote:This is like saying infants are more aggressive than inmates because people are hit by infants way more than they are by inmates.

Isn't that what you're saying though? In your young life around Pit Bulls FC did you ever know an owner that had to taser his own dog to control it when other dogs were around?wailuaFC wrote:Like I said I have an admitted bias, I love pit bulls. Re: JUst killed a dog.
Not puppies, there are many more full grown dog breeds that are more aggressive then pitbulls, yet you always hear about people wanting pitbulls banned because of how aggressive they are. If the reason people want pitbulls banned is because they are dangerous, then shouldnt they also want all big dogs banned as a bull mastiff (110 pounds-150) attack sure sounds a lot more scary to me then a pitbull (55-80 pounds) attackKingcarl24 wrote:Isn't that what you're saying though? Re: JUst killed a dog.
Not tasered, but Ive known a few bad ones, definitely due to the owners treatment. A dog that has had to been tasered doesnt belong being walked in a residential area, thats just asking for trouble. Seems like the owner of the dog that attacked you was a real assholeDa Stars. wrote:In your young life around Pit Bulls FC did you ever know an owner that had to taser his own dog to control it when other dogs were around?wailuaFC wrote:Like I said I have an admitted bias, I love pit bulls.
