Alonso back to Mets 2 years 54m. Opt out after year one.

Pete taps out and finalizes his $100 million dollar fumble. In all likelihood he'll make about $40-$50 of that back but still an astonishingly dumb decision not to sign the extension in retrospect.

Meanwhile Mets are just about set to cook. Wouldn't mind another arm and the re-signing of Iglesias but can't complain about the 26-man. Just need to stay relatively healthy.

If you get Vlad next season and Pete opts in, then Pete to DH?

IDK what will be with Vlad, I'm skeptical the Mets commit huge money there. For one he hasn't been a model of consistency and it's hard to imagine the team locking in a second slugger who will be a DH before very long to a 12+ year deal. Kyle Tucker is a better fit, in theory, although a lefty who can't hit directly behind Soto isn't ideal. The Mets had a bunch of prospects whose value deflated due to injury last season and if enough bounce back and there's a healthy amount of prospect capital it's easier for me to imagine Stearns doing a Yelich-like trade.

He basically sucks though, but I understand that he's a vibes guy with the occasional clutch knock (although that magic will run out). Hoping the Mets bring back Iglesias for the vibes, too.

He sucks in the regular season but is great in the playoffs.

They just do one year deals with him so if he drops off they can move on. Where they got burned was the 4 year deal for Taylor, still one year left on that one.

Seems like the same kind of situation with Kershaw?

Also, .874 OPS over 86 playoff games is more than a fluke sir.
