What's the oldest age you believe Michael Jordan and Mike Tyson could be competitive in this era? Thank you in advance.

Tough to say on Tyson, although at 58 (and fighting on a crippled knee) he went the full 8 rounds with Jake Paul... so I guess the answer would depend on your definition of "competitive".

As for Jordan, let's put it this way: At the age of 39/40 he averaged 20/6/4/45% in a MUCH tougher/more physical era, so it stands to reason MJ at the same age today would put up much better stats... that said, I could see him still being "competitive" in the Modern Era until at least 45 years of age, maybe even older... and why not??? He wouldn't have to worry about playing Defense AND his body wouldn't have to take any physical beatings. In a sense it would be like a pick-up game at the gym, where all he would need to do is stand on the perimeter and take jump shots all day. Easy peasy for the GOAT. Hell, he might be able to do that at age 50.
"Today's NBA is soft, the Defense is weak, and the rules 'really' favor the Offense."

"Lebron doesn’t guard for a full game and our game plan was to get him to play defense and he left me open all game."

There's a bit of difference in arguing the stars of yore could still be stars now than arguing the stars of yore would still be stars as they are now.

Anyone who has played any sport to a meaningfully high level understands this.

I'll be 40 early next year, and in a pure physical sense I might be 65 percent of my ultimate power level (Yu-Gi-Oh style) in terms of speed, reflexes, agility, dexterity, etc...

In fact, that's why in most martial arts belting is adjusted (within-reason) to your age, instead of just saying the top performers get the highest ranks at a given time.

Really? Had no idea about that. So a dude that’s pushing 60 has an easier path to black belt than a 20 year old? Assuming they start at the same time I mean.

No, I just mean that the literal competition-based performance is adjusted for your age/physical attributes.

So in your example, there wouldn't be an expectation that the 60 year just getting his black belt would be an equal match to the 20 year old getting his black belt in a competition or fight setting.

But, the *gap/distance* between himself at black belt and himself at age 50 (or when he started) should be approximately the same as the gap between anyone else's gap between starting/getting black belted.

Some martial arts are much more linear in terms of performance = grading, but they are a relative minority.

I would have legit killed a 90 year old version of Helio Gracie at 25. Smashed his fucking face in with no resistance. The old fuck.

There's a few massively triggered posters ITT...

Anyway, as I said:

With Tyson I'm not sure; you'd have to define "competitive" a little better because, again, on a crippled knee (at 58) he was borderline competitive against one of "today's" supremely conditioned 27-year olds.

As for MJ... we 40-year old LeFraud still putting up "stats" today, and we all know MJ was more talented, skilled and athletic than LeFraud so in today's weak/soft NBA Jordan at 45 would still be able to put up 15-20 PPG on a consistent basis.

Hence, the real question is: Why does this trigger the Modern Era fan???

The 27-year-old told reporters that he purposefully took it easy on Tyson upon realising that the latter was struggling to keep up with him. “I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn’t want to hurt someone that didn’t need to be hurt,” Paul said of the 58-year-old during the post-fight interview.

Society needs to start respecting older people much, much less as a general matter, given their general lack of abilities and usefulness.

Mike is pushing 60, has sciatica, had to be hospitalized THIS YEAR in May due to severe ulcers that he said nearly killed him (I take that with a grain of salt cuz Mike is notorious for exaggerating, but still…), but tdk thinks Mike having a gimpy knee is what lost him the fight? :laugh3:

That’s why I can’t take that boomer seriously. tdk has no honor whatsoever. Can’t even man up and admit he was wrong. Mike at this age was NEVER going to be a threat in the ring… but man did a lot of casuals fall for the 3-5 second clips of him training and proclaim “DURRRRRR he still gots it!”
