Put another way, it's soooooooooooooooooooo much easier to make moves around the basket when there's no interior defense vs. when the paint is packed with defenders who are allowed to bump, grab, elbow and hold you.

This is Basketball 101 to anyone who has played the sport, sport.

The layup that Jordan switched hands with, no one jumped or challenged him at the rim, no one even stood still and vertical a la Roy Hibbert, it was an uncontested layup. Both of those ja plays were leaps and bounds more impressive

A spread floor + no perimeter contact = soooooooo much easier for a player to get off a shot
A wide-open lane = sooooooooooo much easier for a slasher to get to the basket
Zero paint/rim Defense = sooooooooo much easier for guys like Morant to make fancy lay-ups
Soft Defense = the illusion of a more skilled Offense
