Eh, that switch-hands layup doesn't even crack Jordan's Top 25 best moves... it's just iconic because it came in the Finals (not a meaningless regular season game).
Try harder kids.
Try harder kids.
Spoiler:

No, it's iconic because it was a genuinely impressive athletic feat... for the 90s.thedangerouskitchen wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 12:09 pm it's just iconic because it came in the Finals

You seem triggered at the fact that the switch-hands move doesn't even rank among Jordan's Top 25 most difficult moves.LeBronMonsterDunk wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 12:27 pmNo, it's iconic because it was a genuinely impressive athletic feat... for the 90s.thedangerouskitchen wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 12:09 pm it's just iconic because it came in the Finals

Jordan was athletic for any era and had top-tier quickness and especially body control.
That being said, if you want a good mechanism to see how "glazed" Jordan was, just look at how the powers that be reacted to his ultra-generic dunks in the dunk contest.
Dunks that junior high students are doing today in observable reality made the powers that be ooh and aah and orgasm on-air.
"OMG Jordan did a generic flyby dunk....WITH HIS TONGUE OUT! I'M GOING TO CUM!!!!"

Would this guy have done that move during Jordan's era if he were playing then? Nope. People like Jordan paved the way for plays like this to happen.

I mean you’re not incorrect… it’s similar to how Curry led the way of the 3pt revolution. But that doesn’t mean what everyone ITT is saying: since then athletes have made MJ type moves common place.
This fact makes old heads feel obsolete, and they lash out over it, instead of being happy that they were there for the inception.

Without rule changes in 87/88 does curry best 3 point shooter? Why and how did Houston become the first nba team to win a championship leading the league in made and 3 point shotsLNS wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 2:32 pmI mean you’re not incorrect… it’s similar to how Curry led the way of the 3pt revolution. What rule changes? Hand checking? You think being able to put on a hand on Curry would prevent him from drilling 3s?Da Stars. wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 3:11 pmWithout rule changes in 87/88 does curry best 3 point shooter? If Mark Price could thrive in the early 90s as Nash 0.0 (total game) or 2024 Payton Pritchard (for shooting), Steph Curry would feast.
Sometimes, it's that simple: where the "first of" is simply that much better than everyone else (at that time or previous to that time).
Athleticism: Wilt, and Russell to a lesser extent.
B-Ball IQ: Russell
Dunking: Depending on exactly what you are talking about, probably the dunkers of the 70s.
Shooting: Curry
Passing: Magic
Marketing: Jordan

In 1986 and 1987 the NCAA and high school basketball Inc. the three-point shot do you really think Stephen Curry would be as good of a three-point shooter if he was not encouraged to shoot the three for the extra point if it was only worth 2 points?LNS wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 3:20 pmWhat rule changes? I’m not understanding your argument here. Are you saying Steph wouldn’t have taken 3pt shots… if there was no 3pt shot?Da Stars. wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 3:54 pmIn 1986 and 1987 the NCAA and high school basketball Inc. the three-point shot do you really think Stephen Curry would be as good of a three-point shooter if he was not encouraged to shoot the three for the extra point if it was only worth 2 points?
What’s next… you gonna say if James Naismith didn’t invent bball in 1891 then no one would be playing the game today? I mean… no shit.
