Smoking 75 pounds of meat today

Post by wailuaFC »

One of my best friends wedding is coming up and all he asked for was me to bring smoke meat up to California for him, so I’ll be sitting around the smokers, watching football, and tending the fire all day. Hope you all have a great football Sunday

Sounds delicious already. But all he asked from you was to smoke like $500 of meat and fly 5 hours to bring it to them? Lol.

I’m his best man, and helping to cater his wedding is my wedding gift to them. I got it from a friend who raises pigs so $2 per pound of meat since I killed and processed it for him, not too bad.

You slaughtered your own pigs? Tell us more!

I don’t raise pigs, wish I had the land to do so. It was a friends pig, so I got a good price since I did the work other than raising it.

So are you on the mainland or smoking at home?

Smoking at home. Gonna smoke it here, vacuum seal it, freeze it, then cut it into bite sized pieces and finish it in a wok right before the wedding.

Pig?
Yeah pig. Just cut the whole pig into more or less 2x2 strips. Marinated it for a little over a day and smoking it now

Kiawe, it’s related to mesquite. Gotta have a strong smoke flavor since it’s basically a teriyaki marinade. Shoyu, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, chili pepper water, bay leaves. Fry it up with a little guava jelly and white onions, it’s a classic side dish over here for any celebration

I genuinely didn’t think about that at all. Think I should try to hide it so they don’t take it away? I could put it in candles or coffee bags?

I don’t think my life is that interesting. I just grew up around a different culture than everyone else. I’m sure if anyone else grew up here they’d do the same things I do, if not more. As far as having fun, I severely overestimated how much meat I could load up my smokers with, I’ll be cooking into the morning hours, so not having a ton of fun right now haha

that would be even more suspicious and give off smuggling vibes. personally i’ve never traveled with that much food in my checked luggage but i would ask chatgpt or refer to tsa website.

regardless if they have sniffing dogs at the airport they gonna be really interested in your bag for sure
