MLB 2024 PLAYOFFS Discussion Thread
Re: MLB 2024 PLAYOFFS Discussion Thread
No team with Harper will ever win a WS. Regardless of how well he performs he just has a black cloud over his head.
Nationals banging out a WS the very next year after letting him walk was hilarious and proves this
Sorry Phuture

I am ready to blow this up.
Good series, KUB.
I'll be rooting against your squad for the rest of the playoffs.
You understand.

First move should be trading Schwarber to the Cubs for anyone you want. Blank checkPhutureDynasty wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 8:27 pm I am ready to blow this up.

I have to ask, who did you find particularly annoying in this series on the Mets side? Either play or behavior?
No troll I think the Phillies are in big trouble moving forward, as you alluded to with blowing things up. Next year they will bring back the same team but everyone will be a year older and none of their core have any upside left, all on the wrong side of 30. I'm not very familiar with the Phillies farm but they never seem to produce stars anymore so there's no savior on the way. I guess the year after next the Schwarber and Realmuto deals drop but it's not like they can then add to the team, they need to replace that production so they will just be treading water. Sorry bro. I feel like last year was their best chance because Arizona and Texas were two very flawed teams.

This Mets team is special. There’s just a certain kind of energy about them that comes organically.
Another subway series would be good to see. About the best MLB could hope for minus Dodgers vs Yankees.

Real spit separate from wanting to see the homie KUB’s team do well while the grinch Riley anguishes since my official team is out, always out i should say, the Mets really have grabbed a piece of my heart being the good story they’ve been just being here with what seems to be one dramatic win after another. I hate the dilemma i’m soon to be presented with if my default team Dodgers square up with the Mets. The last time I rooted against the Dodgers was when my boy Howie Kendrick faced them as a Washington National and destroyed their dreams with one of the more clutch homeruns i’ve ever seen. This is a tough one, but I cannot go against Shohei, I’m too in love with him now.
I’m like Stars a bit, I need a rooting interest to watch sporting events. I’ll never be one of those cool headed Abe fags that just watches games for the meh of it just hoping for a good game for me to analyze and discuss over.
My bad for the trauma dump, this was part therapy and part confession for me.
Thank you for listening

Nimmo and Winker. Nothing major really but the chirping that comes with a heated playoff series against a division rival.kobeunderbite wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 3:27 amPhutureDynasty wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 8:27 pm I am ready to blow this up.

As you said, last season was the shot. That Arizona squad proved to be a fluke by this season's performance and the Rangers were riding a hot streak too.
The bats went cold at the wrong time against Arizona and this playoffs they didn't bother to hit at all.
The Turner deal could be an all time bad deal for Philly if he doesn't turn it around.

Re: MLB 2024 PLAYOFFS Discussion Thread
I don't want to get ahead of myself because I'm low key waiting for the bubble to burst but this is about a lot more than this particular group of players, it's about the entire history of the organization, not just during this 38-year title drought but from day 1. We're not just trying to win, we're trying to permanently exit the Clippers-tier of laughing stock franchises in sports, no more loveable losers, put a permanent end to being the butt of jokes in Family Guy, lolMets, all of that garbage. And the man at the helm understands this exactly
The team itself is obviously special, too, but I resent the idea that we are just riding a hot hand like the Diamondbacks or Rangers from last season, this team has the best record in the game since June 1 for a reason. With that being said, there are still big mountains to climb yet, and any of SD-LAD-NYY would terrify me from here on.

Phillies have been close but you kind of have to question the Dombrowski strategy now. Not very holistic or sustainable looking.

I’ve seen that face before, which usually means it’s not going well for the other side.

Do you think it was a problem looking back that they basically let Harper hand pick a team of his own buddies and that it became this rugged, all white country club MAGA locker room? Do you think they could have used the kind of Latino swagger the Mets employ to keep things loose? Like one or two dread lock sporting, home run pimping Venezuelans with off color elbow guards could have given the team what it needed? Asking seriously.

Not at all. It's not like they weren't signing good players at the time of their signings. Nola and Turner have been underwhelming but at the end of the day I get the justification for both.kobeunderbite wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 11:06 amPhutureDynasty wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 11:01 amNah I don't question it. What Dave did gave the team 2 realistic shots at winning World Series (last season and the season before). The players didn't capitalize. Maybe that's luck that they made it as far as they did but a lot of signing and drafting players is luck so I don't think he's been bad nor do I question the strategy. He spent money and that's what the fans wanted him to do after getting Bryce.

It seems like they got tight in both seasons though. More so against the DBacks than Houston. I think some Latin blood might have kept them loose.PhutureDynasty wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 11:15 amNot at all. It's not like they weren't signing good players at the time of their signings.
