What a shitty way to die

I didn't even know he was sick....damn.
Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are dumber than that.

Which brings a question:
Would you choose to die at 58 if it meant you could be an NBA star and live a glamorous life beforehand?

I personally would. It’s not just the “glamorous life” aspect… but also the legacy you’d leave behind, and the generational wealth you’d leave your family.CleveTown™ wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 11:16 am Which brings a question:

Plenty of people keel over at 58, or younger, while doing nothing with their life. So yeah, this is a pretty easy choice.CleveTown™ wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 11:16 am Which brings a question:

Absolutely zero chance. Nothing is more valuable than time with loved ones and money does not give you more of that. I'll take my chances on a long life.

My buddy died of brain cancer this summer at 42. Damn shame.

I missed this one.
What terrible news. Beyond the usual on-court stuff, I really liked Dikembe (from what I knew).
Hopefully he's blocking God's shots in heaven right now.
As to the question raised, you are basically asking me if I would trade an estimated (on-average) 20 years or so on this planet for the differences in legacy/accumulated resources. I personally would not. Of course, that encompasses a small risk that you won't benefit those 20 years, but there are risks to being a pro baller as well, since so many of them are flat broke a decade or so after playing.

Re: Dikembe Mutombo died...
Looks like his net worth is about 75 million. Might be tough to say no, but I think I'm risking a longer time with my family. Also seeing first hand how terrible the past few months/year of life is with Brain cancer, the constant surgeries, losing the ability to talk, struggle walking, needing care 24/7. No thanks.
