In other words the soft Style/Defense of today's Modern Era (due to the rule changes) leads to faster Pacing and more Spacing, which in turn makes it much EASIER for players to Dribble, Pass, Shoot and Score than it was 20-30 years ago. Thus, the inflated stats/scoring of today has nothing to do with the players being so much better (they're not), and everything to do with the league purposely making the game easier for the Offense.

This of course has been alluded to (earlier this year) by the NBA Commissioner, the NBA VP of Ops, many current players/coaches, Kevin Garnett, and yes, yours truly TDK, who all laugh at the couch-potato fans (ie; the BWGC) who ignore these intangibles and focus only on their graphs and charts and fake-stats as 'proof' of Modern Era superiority.

If we are being honest, he's got it backwards. Half the guys from his best years would struggle to make a roster in today's NBA. So many bigs would have no hope guarding the screen and roll, and tons of wings who couldn't shoot the 3 would be superfluous.

KG himself would still be a great player, but his inability to make the 3 consistently would reduce his overall impact on the game relative to his peak in the league.

But the NBA Commissioner, the NBA VP of Ops, as well as "current" and past players/coaches DO know... and by their OWN ADMISSION the rules/style was changed for the sole purpose of limiting the Physicality, so as to increase the Pace/Scoring of the game. Hell, even LeFraud James himself admitted that today's NBA is like playing in the All Star game (ie; very little Defense and wide-open/free-flowing Offense).

No, actually it's not... if you were around in the 80's-00's it's as clear as the sunrise that Defense today is significantly less physical (ie; softer). But if the eyeball test isn't good enough, all you need to do is read what the league itself said earlier this year, which was echoed by numerous "curent" players and coaches, not to mention boatloads of former players/coaches.

So you got it backwards, actually... claiming Defense today isN't softer is on the level of saying 3-point shooting isn't better today (than it was in the 80's-90's).
