hiking is dumb af

Post by Alex_Murphy »

ppl are dumb. leave nature alone. if you need to walk up an incline i got treadmills in my gym that go all the way up to 30 on incline. why the fuck would you risk coming in contact or being confronted by a curious and hungry mountain lion or bear. dumbass! there is no reason to put yourself in that kind of danger. same goes for camping…

Hiking is more about “touching grass”. It’s funny you made this thread cuz I’m gonna go hike after I drop my kid off at school. There aren’t any mountain lions in the area though. But the sun and fresh air are why people generally do it.

i’m addicted to watching savage wild animals and have been for several years. lions catching prey is probably my favorite followed by crocodiles and pack of wolves. leopard and cheetah chases are pretty bad ass too.

yeah i guess that’s cool if it’s a man made park. but for people that go into the unknown to touch grass … or whatever…. that’s just how dumb people get killed. even if you had a weapon on you you could get sneak attacked by a mountain lion or ambushed by a bear and that would be a terrible way to go imho

Hiking is great.
Leoss has no apreciation of nature. He lives in a plastic fake world.
He's never been in the mountain.
He would be incapable and rag headed

Hiking is great.

Yes, don't be intrusive on nature, but for a lot of people there is a restorative effect, at least in some ways:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 4422001293

One of the most documented effects of exposure to nature is physical and psychological restoration. Restoration refers to the recovery or strengthening of adaptive resources (e.g., attentional capabilities, positive emotions, etc.) that are being spent in meeting the demands of everyday life. The restorative process has been widely studied in adults, but less is known about the restorative effects that exposure to nature has for children and adolescents. To fill this gap in the literature, we conducted a systematic review aiming at systematically summarizing the accumulated evidence about the restorative effects of nature exposure on children and adolescents and reporting the main findings in terms of the restoration of (1) cognitive, (2) emotional, (3) social or (4) behavioural resources. To conduct the study, we followed the PRISMA procedure. Databases were extracted from Web of Science, PUBMED, and SCOPUS. Studies were selected if (a) they included non-adult participants, (b) they included empirical results at least for one of the four selected variables, (c) the study was published in English and (d) the study had been peer-reviewed. According to these criteria, 30 studies were finally selected. Selected studies were categorized in terms of sample size, duration of the intervention (if applicable), and quality of the study (following the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute assessment tool). Results show that exposure to nature has significant restorative effects, but the effects differ across the selected variables. Due to methodological limitations, such as a lack of measurement standardization, and the scarcity of experimental and longitudinal studies, caution should be exercised when interpreting the available results. Suggestions for future lines of research in this area are provided.

Hiking is only as fun as its trails. There are tons of great hikes in SoCal that offer great scenery, great views of city, mountains, and ocean. But I hear you big dawg, when you gotta deal with wild animals like mountain lions and rattle snakes, spiders, and oh the poison ivy/oak. Is it really worth it? I just go on my VR hiking app while on a treadmill and I can virtual hike any terrain in the world. Last week I did the great wall of china run with a horde of 13th century mongols chasing me.

Appropriately timed. I'm in Arizona with my girlfriend and we have hiked every day and will until we go back.home on Sunday. I LOVE hiking in the desert 🏜️. It's a great workout in a great setting that doesn't feel like a workout because you are just enjoying. Makes that glass of wine at dinner taste even better. Temperatures are scorching, but all the sauna and steam practice we do comes in handy. We thrive.

Dang you guys are mid.
Nature is glorious.
Mountain Lions? Rare, and they generally don’t want an adult.
Rattlesnakes? Just keep an eye out. People generally don’t die from a bite anyway.
Spiders? I see more at home and work than I do outdoors. It’s tarantula mating season, so they are out and about right now. But they’re harmless.
Poison oak? No fun. I always wash with Dawn if I know I’ve been exposed. So far so good.

I've seen a lot of rattlesnakes over the years in the Sonoran Desert while hiking. They are usually just sunning themselves. They are absolutely NOT A THREAT unless you are a moron. They just want to be left alone. If you don't corner it and threaten it, it will just leave you alone. Once, about a decade ago, I also saw a Gila Monster. Sadly, I had a Blackberry with a shitty camera so I never got a decent picture. You want to be very respectful of those. If they feel threatened, they will fuck you up.

Reginald Martinez Jackson. You got a white man’s first name, a Mexican’s middle name and a Black man’s last name. No wonder you’re all fouled up.

Finished a bit ago. No snakes or lizards. About a half dozen salamanders, one cotton tail bunny and one desert squirrel. When we started, it was 99°. At the finish, 102°. Needless to say, we didn't come across too many other hikers.
