Berlanga was a bit of an unknown, too. Pretty crazy how popular Canelo is.
How’d UFC 306 do? You’d think Dana would know by now not to go head to head with the king.

This Saturday is Joshua vs Dubois at Wembley Stadium. 96,000 people will be in attendance. Amazing…

CONFIRMED
Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois' IBF world heavyweight title fight at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday is set to break the post-war record for a crowd at a boxing event in the United Kingdom after organisers confirmed 96,000 tickets have been sold.
Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, posted on X on Thursday to say there were no longer tickets available.

you're not getting it.
If 1 billion people paid to see the match doesn't mean it is better than the UFC. It just means there are 1 billion fools in the world, and given the current state, it's easy to believe.

It’s the premier combat sport in the world. Some fat low T guy in Korea saying otherwise is irrelevant.CleveTown™ wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 1:14 pm you're not getting it.

and I don't care if it's "premier." I have stated what it is. There's a ton of history and nostalgia with it, but you're starting to sound like the boomers of the board like TDK living in the 80's stammering on about muh Jordan and the cream puff era.
Boxing is lame. UFC is the new boxing from here on out.
Accept it. (FFS you're stubborn about this)

Don’t get me wrong… I’ll occasionally slum it and watch some UFC. The striking is on the level of shit I’d see at a sawdust roadhouse joint but at least they’re trying. The main prob with the sport is that Dana treats his fighters like niggers. Pays them in food stamps and punishes them for speaking out about it.
And you’re 100% low T. Going for a walk or whatever you do for exercise isn’t gonna get it done, Daniel.

"Boxing money" vs. "MMA money" doesn't reduce to how much money the uppermost crust makes:
If you believe these data (and this is 2019), there are plenty of spots in the distribution where MMA vs. boxing pay is comparable. From about the 80th to 97th percentile, MMA guys actually seem to do better. The lowest quartile boxing has an advantage that falls into the "does it really matter" category because its all shit. Boxing does better in the middle and uppermost parts of the distribution.

Re: Rumors going around that Canelo vs Berlanga did 750K PPV buys
I literally said the opposite upstream, dummy.
It would be more accurate to say (if you believe those data):
Boxing's lower class makes a little more than MMA's lower class, but it's mostly moot because it's all shit pay.
Boxing's middle class is comfortable better off than MMA's middle-class.
MMA's upper-middle class seems to be doing a step or so better than Boxing's upper-middle class
Boxing's filthy rich wildly exceeds MMA's filthy rich
That's more representative of reality than pretending all boxers "be makin mad money and sheeeet" because Mayweather made nine-figures on a fight or two.
Re: Rumors going around that Canelo vs Berlanga did 750K PPV buys
I do gotta say though… (and I swear I’m not trolling) who is the biggest “star” in MMA right now? I saw a vid in YouTube discussing it and the landscape is kinda barren right now. They were pushing “Suga” and that seemed to fall flat. Who is the next big thing right now?
Re: Rumors going around that Canelo vs Berlanga did 750K PPV buys
The thing is… no one gives a shit if John Franklinson makes more than Raheem Johnson. We compare the stars because the stars are what drive the sport. And by that comparison it’s a fucking slaughter. But… at least your middle class fighters make slightly more?Bush4Ever. wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 2:21 pmI literally said the opposite upstream, dummy.

Boxers should be happy that MMA fighters don't just take the money.
What is Usyk gonna do if Jon Jones walks up to his house and demands every cent he has? Jones would ragdoll Usyk and Usyk is the best boxing has to offer right now. I mean Khabib right now would whoop Usyk's ass.
We saw Fury have one of his hardest matches ever against Francis and that was with Francis just punching in his first real boxing match ever against an all time heavyweight in Fury.

At this very moment, Alex Pereira is probably the guy fans get the most excited about.
But we are in a pretty international place at the moment, so the effects are a bit more widely distributed than the usual "get a charismatic Whitey or Black American" effect.
Fly = Brazil
Bant=Georgia (country)
Feather=Spain/Georgia
Light=Kaboomistan
WW=Terrorismland (by way of USA)
MW=South Africa
LHW=Brazil
HW=USA
The UFC is probably going to try and push Umar at 145 to piggyback off Khabib, and probably Shavkat at WW. Maybe Khamzat if he ever redirects his career.
Aspinall (England) looming at HW when Jones retires.
Personally, I like the idea of multiple countries having heroes than hyper-emphasis on one or two fighters to drive promotion. I think it will pay off in the long run, although maybe not in the short run.
