Finished House of the Dragon and Cobra Kai

Post by kobeunderbite »

Dragon was a good season, not amazing, some stuff like Daemon in Harrenhal was boring but I don't mind ending on all of the cliffhangers. I do think what happened with Aegon in the end seemed out of character and to not make sense. Cobra Kai clearly ran out of viable material but they are doing a decent job scraping together a last season anyway, although it's probably the weakest to date.

The way they are going with Miyagi is interesting. It's not enough to save a season, but if done well, it could be a great addition to the lore and canon.

The hypothesis that he
Spoiler:
fought in the Sekai Taikai and killed someone
is intriguing, and would go towards explaining some of his (IMO) irrational dislike of tournament fighting from the original movies.

Season 2 of HOTD was meh for me. Not good but not bad. Felt like a setup season for the upcoming events.

Spoiler:
Aegon's heir's death and beheading was dark, even for GOT and HOTD standards.

The battle where Rhaenys Targaryen and her dragon Meleys died was a good episode.

I couldn't stand both scenes where the queens met up in secret. I get that they're both mothers and the lives of their children are in the line but to act like this is salvageable is absurd.

I never saw the Hillary Swank Karate Kid but I would think more likely than not she shows up at some point before the end to tell Daniel some Miyagi secrets and about how Miyagi loved Daniel like a son, some gay stuff like that. I mean they're so desperate for callbacks and she's the last card they haven't played, seems like a no-brainer.

The King's Landing scenes were by far the most interesting in the season. Rhaneyra and Daemon are pretty dull especially the neutered, confused version of Daemon.

I’ve enjoyed season 2 of HOTD but there are a few parts where they start having long discussions about house such-and-such controls area blah blah blah and in order to gain their allegiance they need to XYZ… basically boring shit that I don’t care about. So I’ll find myself reading an article on my phone or looking at artwork during these parts, then glance up during a dragon battle or sex scene. Not proud of my shitty attention span but these scenes seem like filler anyway. :noidea:

The dialogue in HOTD is demonstrably less intelligent than in GOT. The absolute best parts of GOT was character interaction and the political aspects of the storyline.

HOTD is all about WHEN DO THA DRAGONS FIGHT?!?!

It's still a good show, but it's well below the bar that was set by GOT.

Maybe the dude from Karate Kid 2 can come back and challenge Daniel to a rematch!

Dragon is on average better than Thrones, which got worse every year. Obviously Thrones has the higher peak but there was so much trash, it just got worse and worse.

Just watch and enjoy...it's called entertainment. Picking it apart and comparing to other shows and insulting is pretty sad.

"Just turn your brain off, bro!" lol not all of us are THAT simple minded, slim.

You're more than welcome to veg out and kill brain cells smoking weed and watching TV but there's no need to barge into the first class cabin smelling like shit and dismissing the experience of others.

The first 4 seasons of GOT was a work of art. Season 5 was meh. Season 6 was a shit bag.

Nothing HOTD has put together comes close to prime GOT. They have a chance next season, but without GRRM's writing, it's simply hard to compete.

I know that most people are quite high on S03/04 of GoT, not me though.

I view it as having started with a 10/10 first season and then getting worse by one point in every subsequent season (S02 9/10, S03 8/10, S04 7/10, etc).

Did not care for the Brienne/Jaime stuff at all. Did not care much for Jon beyond the wall. Did not enjoy Daenerys or Arya's girlboss adventures. There's good stuff in there, don't get me wrong, but I see a gradual decline in quality from the start, and I was probably worse off for knowing about twists like the 'Red Wedding' in advance.

House of the Dragon S02 doesn't have the peaks of GoT S03/04, imo, but it has a higher 'boring floor,' and is more steadily entertaining.

We're going to have to agree to disagree. I thought this season was fairly mundane with plenty of boring spots. I actually nodded off a few times watching Season 2, and that would have NEVER happened in GOT.

On top of that, we're having to wait damn near two fucking years in-between HOTD seasons. The pace is so slow....both in the show and in the production.

I've fallen asleep watching both shows. I don't really get the GoT love affair beyond the first season, in all honesty, and I get that I'm in the minority. But a lot of what was going on in those seasons (specifically the plotlines I mentioned) were boring as sin (imo).

In other words...way over your head.
House of dragons is more cerebral which explains why you don't get it.

HOTD is most definitely not more cerebral.

I said I like House of the Dragon better my fat, autistic chum. Somehow Rob was lucid enough to understand what I wrote, but then he isn't abusing drugs.
