Pretty good vid on Dream Team vs 2024 team

Post by ElJorge »

He says Dream Team was heads & tails above this current team… makes a good argument IMO.

This is no surprise to ANY objective fan with a BB IQ of at least 10.

PS: Anyone else notice (in the clip) that not one single "Defender" (lol) even so much as brushed jerseys with LeFraud in that Germany game???

I mean, come on... at least TRY to make the opposing player/team work just a little bit for their point, amirite?!?! No wonder LeFraud can still play at age 40.

The biggest difference is the international talent.

In 1992, the rest of the world had 9 total NBA players smattered about rosters.

Today, there are 51 current NBA players on international rosters....and another 30 with at least some NBA experience.

The Dream Team had a fucking cakewalk.

More international players than ever in NBA now. it shows how poor the quality of the american talent pool has been during the lebron 21yr era that now 125 international players take up roster spots in the nba ...that's 125 americans with weak game that cant make the league
its little wonder the rest of the world is on par with america when the american talent pool coming through aren't even plumbers and bus drivers

Did ANY of that make sense to you?

What you mean is that the American plumbers AREN'T ON ROSTERS anymore due to amazing international talent.

Deeper talent pool....deeper teams....much better competition.

The fact that you can't follow that simple logic is sad.

In 1992....the weaker Americans made NBA rosters.

In 2024....the weaker Americans can't make NBA rosters.

Relative to competition, the Dream Team was obviously better, but it was better because the competition was literally 10x worse.

What's complicated to understand about that?

That's basically reflective of the Dream Team's legacy as well...prompting international programs and ballers and money/emphasis...which in turn led to a deeper talent pool worldwide.

If international players were so bad during the 90's, why did the USA have to send pro's to defeat them?

We got so cocky that we stopped sending pros and figured our best college players could get the job done (and they could for a while) but over time international basketball closed the gap to where our college players weren't enough.

That's when we sent the big dogs in.

In fairness though… in the vid he doesn’t use their competition as the end all be all. He readily acknowledges that teams in other countries have gotten much better. In fact… when he compares players on his chart (ranking efficiency and productivity and whatever other metrics) it clearly shows that the Dream Team had the better players, and the players on their level play for other countries (Jokic, SGA, Luka).

International basketball got better from the time that our college players could beat them until 1992 when we decided to first send NBA players (my mistake, I thought we sent them back in the earliest days of Olympic basketball).

Regardless, if international basketball got better in the time from college players going to the Olympics until 1992, you don't think they would be even better today?
