Bolt ran a 40 yd dash with 4:22 wearing sweat pants https://fb.watch/tulvOMDmK1/ dude looked 50% serious. I fear what he would have done if he was 90% committed and had his favorite mcdonald's chicken nuggets the night before. NFLers, like to boast their sprint times, intimating that if they dedicated themselves to sprinting that they would do well. well that is patently false. I watch DK Metcalf trying to qualify for the olympics. Dude ran a 10:19-10:31 and failed to quality.

look how slow these punjabis look in this 100m dash. and they would dust 90% of the NFL players.

Metcalf is carrying 235 pounds.AtiliusRegulus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 1:55 pm Bolt ran a 40 yd dash with 4:22 wearing sweat pants https://fb.watch/tulvOMDmK1/ dude looked 50% serious. Since Carl Lewis, the average height/weight of the gold medalist in the 100 is 6'2" and a little over 190 lbs. Bolt himself is abnormal in terms of his height/stride and even he only clocks in at two bucks and seven.
James Jett was 170 lbs, and ran a 10.1, and led the relay team that won gold in 92 (or 88?), and (to my understanding) was a relatively bit receiver in the NFL.
Edit: Yes, what LMD said as well. Although you would have to be careful to calibrate what a percentage point difference actually means in rank, not just percentage. In shorter events, smaller percentages will correlate to large percentile differences than longer races

So a 236+ lb professional wide receiver that runs the 100m for fun can do it within 4% of the current world champion, and within 7% of the fastest sprinter ever?AtiliusRegulus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 1:55 pm Bolt ran a 40 yd dash with 4:22 wearing sweat pants https://fb.watch/tulvOMDmK1/ dude looked 50% serious. I'm not sure why you thought posting that was helping your argument.

I made my case. NFL athletes are good but they cannot hack it in the sprint world.LeBronMonsterDunk wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 2:04 pmSo a 236+ lb professional wide receiver that runs the 100m for fun can do it within 4% of the current world champion, and within 7% of the fastest sprinter ever?AtiliusRegulus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 1:55 pm Bolt ran a 40 yd dash with 4:22 wearing sweat pants https://fb.watch/tulvOMDmK1/ dude looked 50% serious. lol how many pro athletes can hack it in any other pro sport of significance?AtiliusRegulus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 2:14 pm I made my case. NFL athletes are good but they cannot hack it in the sprint world.
Bolt just needs to jump two races upwards *within* his running sport to seem mortal, since his 800 time (self-proclaimed) was 2:07 (not far from my personal best running the 800), and his mile might not have even broke five minutes (not even good for high school).

not many hence let’s acknowledge Bilt as the greatest of the 21st century despite a so called poor record population poolBush4Ever. wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 2:20 pmlol how many pro athletes can hack it in any other pro sport of significance?AtiliusRegulus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 2:14 pm I made my case. The 100 and 200 draw from nearly the same pool of sprinters though. Those are different events but the same sport (short-distance sprinting).AtiliusRegulus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 2:30 pm not many hence let’s acknowledge Bilt as the greatest of the 21st century despite a so called poor record population pool
Even advancing from the 200 to the 400 shifts things let alone the 800.
Michael Johnson was the dominant 200/400 guy (and the guy my dad loved) of his era and could *only* hit a 10.09 at the 100, which wouldn't place in the top 3000 all-time (https://www.alltime-athletics.com/m_100ok.htm).

A few weeks back I watched this vid talking about why the 400m is the hardest event in track & field. There are short segments edited in where Bolt and several others basically say “no thank you” to it.

No I haven’t seen that but it sounds ridiculous… not sure how people don’t physically breakdown with a training regimen like that. Some people really are built different.AtiliusRegulus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 3:33 pmlol@ he has run himself into a gold medal and .........the hospital

Bolt broke down after just 8 years.
LeGOAT has been Top 5 World Class in a much more complex sport, with vastly deeper competition pools, going on 22 years now.

Messi and it isn’t particularly close. He’s at the point where he should be clearly on the Mount Rushmore of athletes

I'm looking at the list more carefully now and not seeing Saitiev or Mijain Lopez for free/greco-roman wrestling.
Saitiev split his time pre-00 to post-00 so it's whatever I guess, but Lopez has FOUR Olympic golds stretching from 2008-2020, and FIVE golds/Three Silvers at the Worlds.
Not as impressive as Jason Kidd I guess.
GFTO of here. I understand they probably just gathered popular names and put them in a random order generator but still....it's one of the premier Olympic sports....that you used to springboard the guy in the number one spot!

I'm fine with BJJ not being represented. Ultra-small talent pool, super-niche sport. Fine (actually, correct not just fine).
Even Teddy Riner (2 olympic golds, 11 Worlds golds) for Judo or something like that....I can *maybe* accept on a very nice day, although Judo has non-trivial amounts of representation (not so much in America).
But those excuses don't hold up for wrestling. Very deep talent pool internationally (albeit, not in GR as much as freestyle), historic sport, heavily woven into the fabric of many cultures around the world. America...if not at the top, generally very close overall.
Clearly not on the level of Candace Parker though. They can kiss my Black ass.

Kinda surprised Usyk isn’t on this list now that I think about it. Unified at cruiserweight against some pretty decent comp, and then unified again at heavy against AJ and Fury, with some scattered in defenses. First undisputed heavyweight champ since 2000.
