Dear board members especially the stupid ones

Post by AtiliusRegulus »

Any casual study of anthropology and history will tell you that all generations are not the same with regards to mental toughness and achievements.

Some generations based on what they had to deal with and to overcome are naturally more moral, and stoic and mentally stronger than others.

The generation of settlers is tough. The generation of the revolutionary war is tough, the generation of the Great Depression ww2 is tough.
Statistics bear this out.

This generation is not tough. Out of wedlock rates, safe spaces, decline in test scores etc prove such.

When you said “especially the stupid ones”, i figured you were speaking to Dimb as Deez, but when you mentioned safe space, I knew for sure you were talking about Shed…

Stupid: go read a history book. I don’t need to feed you every vital fact and concept.
Go read the famous battles where valor one the day against a superior army when each was on a level playing field.
Basketball is simulated warfare, hence it’s not merely about skill and athleticism. The intrinsic plays a vital role this is why sports psychologist make money.
But that is over your head. “Bigger better faster”

Do you seriously consider yourself “tough”? Going to the gym doesn’t make you a hardass. Don’t you work a desk job or some shit?

I readily admit that I am not as tough as my parents and grandparents. It’s only now I am able to appreciate what they have accomplished.

I'm glad you aren't so stupid that you didn't recognize that I was indeed talking to you.

You're full of shit Attie. You are not a tough guy. You're a wannabee. I'd gladly match toughness resumes with you.

My dad was born in 1912 and lived through the depression praying whenever there was a storm that the barn wouldn't get struck by lightning because they couldn't afford insurance. He had a tough life. He came from a family of 12 and my mom from a family of 14. I was raised in an 1150 square foot bungalo with 3 siblings. We always had food, but no luxuries. Christmas presents were socks, underwear and maybe a shirt or pair of pants. My dad would occasionally lose his mind and buy me something for hockey that wasn't used and I thought I was the luckiest kid on earth.

I lost my dad in 3rd year university. I wasn't given a freaking thing. I started work at 15 (did paper routes and caddying for golf before that) as a nighttime tv cameraman. I did 7 consecutive years of university (2 undergraduate, then law school and finally an MBA) without any help financially. I worked at a mine in the summers and saved every nickel to pay for it. I worked 12 hour shifts and took every overtime shift I could get. I'd leave on the fall for school down south with 9-10k in my jeans. Back then (late 70s to early mid 80s), it was enough to pay for my tuition, books and live. I lived in some dumps, but I got by just fine.

I've gotten breaks and been lucky along the way. Anyone who's successful who pretends they weren't lucky is a liar or delusional.

Wannabe tough guys like you turn my stomach. You were advantaged from the get go. You're stupid, and while you've achieved modest successes, you believe it's because of innate qualities. Dude, born under different circumstances, you could be homeless.

You are all bark and full of self righteous shit.

You couldn't get a real woman on your own, so you married a subservient Latina who still regulates when and how often you get sex. Maybe that's why you're such a repressed, self righteous dick.

That Attie, is unvarnished truth.

Edit: for the record, I know damn well I'm not tough. I'm physically extremely fit for my age, but if there is WW3, I'm fucked. I've forgotten all the survival skills I had as a boy. I'd perish quickly. But pretend tough guys just really turn my stomach.

You’re overthinking this just a tad. All your talk about “civil wars” and how people were tougher back in the olden days and everyone now is a pampered pussy… it very strongly comes across like you’re insecure and begging for some type of test. You don’t need to go off to battle in order to test your mettle, Ati. Sometimes just being a good father and husband is more than enough. Leave things better than you found them. I’m positive if push came to shove you’d handle yourself just fine. This perpetual chip on your shoulder is alarming.

That's a kind interpretation. I'm not as kind. I just think he's an asshole. And stupid.

My grandfather who I just visited this morning was born in 1926, unfortunately he's starting to lose his marbles but he's well enough yet to regale us with incredible stories from his life. I feel very privileged and grateful for the sacrifices he made that led to my wonderful life. My great grandfather was a wealthy oil tycoon in Germany but the whole family left everything behind at the outbreak of the Holocaust. My great grandfather went from having his own business, driver and estate in the 'old country' to cleaning movie theaters for work and living with the entire family in a cramped tenement on the lower east side. But he rarely complained and was thankful just to be alive. My grandfather led a life that was not entirely dissimilar to yours, working multiple jobs to put himself through university, while teaching himself English, eventually building his own company that my father and uncle inherited. [Despite my great grandmothers insistence that he enroll in a yeshiva to avoid the draft, he also served in the air force in WW2]. Although I'm not in the family business, I continue to reap the benefits of their hard work and sacrifices.

I would think that atty does not have a good relationship with his dad and family, it would fit and help explain his persona and the chip he carries around.

What I did pales in comparison to your grandfather. Not even in the same area code. I don't know what I might have been capable of if I'd been forced to, but I'm afraid of the answer. I'm just thankful as hell I didn't have to find out.

I don't know if you remember 'plastic blades' that were popular in the 60s, maybe early 70s. If you broke your stick, you could saw off the end and attach an indestructible plastic blade. You'd put it over the stove to seal the juncture and then heat the blade so you could curve it to your satisfaction. For practice then, you never had to worry about breaking your stick and could save the good wood stick for games. They were a little heavy and cumbersome but allowed freedom to play because they were literally indestructible.

Your GF is 100, my mom is currently 93 will turn 94 in3 weeks.

Undies, live long and prosperous.

Anything new I got as far as hockey was concerned, was a new stick. I finally broke the damn thing, thinking 2010. Playing tennis ball hockey.

Your father was close to being 20 years older than my parents at time we were born.

The fact that our parents lived through the great depression might be the reason we will survive the next one. Learning the power of money. :suds:
I don't know if you remember 'plastic blades' that were popular in the 60s, maybe early 70s. If you broke your stick, you could saw off the end and attach an indestructible plastic blade. You'd put it over the stove to seal the juncture and then heat the blade so you could curve it to your satisfaction. For practice then, you never had to worry about breaking your stick and could save the good wood stick for games.

I do remember. I used those plastic blades for street hockey. Northland and Koho, were my sticks of choice.
